More than ordinary interest has been felt in Beeville over the burning of the home of 
Hon. R. H. WOOD, of Rockport last Friday night from the fact that it also coincident 
with the death of Mrs. S. A. HOWARD, the aged mother of Mrs. Wood and who was 
for many years a resident here...fire was probably the work of an incendiary....all 
attempts to rescue the elderly lady failed.

Mrs. Howard was 80 years old and had been a resident of Texas since an early day. 
She leaves five children, O. J. Howard and Mrs. J. M. NUCKOLS of Matagorda county, 
Mrs. BRIGHTMAN of Comanche, Mrs. R. H. WOOD of Rockport and Mrs. S. B. KIMBALL 
of Mineral, this county.
