Welcome

Brewster County is the largest county in Texas and is actually larger than the states of Rhode Island, Delaware and Connecticut. It's almost 6200 sq. miles (16,040km2) and is largely desert with the only substantial water supply being the Rio Grande. Brewster County was created from Presidio in 1887 with Murphyville designated as the county seat. Brewster is named for Henry Percy Brewster, who fought in the Texas Revolution. Murphyville was renamed Alpine in 1888.
