Clear Creek Cemetery
by Norma Newsom PollardCoords: 31.703717, -99.090752
Cemetery is located 7 miles west from Brownwood. From Highway 67, make a left (south) onto County Road 198, for 1 mile. Turn right (west) onto County Road 180, for 1/2 mile. The Cemetery is on the left (south) side of the road.
Land Donations: A Deed executed by L. L. Childress and wife, Mary W. on April 13, 1901, for the purpose of a cemetery and was recorded in Brown County, Texas on April 13, 1901. The oldest grave is that of A. E. Starkey who died in 1879. J. H. Counts and wife Susan Frances (Hawkins), stepdaughter of Greenleaf Fisk, who is called "Father of Brownwood", donated land adjacent to the cemetery for the purpose of a public school. The deed was executed on December 11, 1896 and recorded in Volume 50, page 620, Brown County Records.
Mrs. Hazel Wetzel surveyed this cemetery on March 15, 1972. In preparing this report, I referred back to several funeral markers which were readable at the time she took the survey but are now unreadable.
