These pages were created by Ann Onstad, who has taken great effort to type these cemetery inventories from the information on file with the Denton County Historical Commission. Recently, Ann was gracious enough to allow her work to be moved to the Denton County GenWeb site.
Ann dedicates these pages to Richard Tarver, who passed in September 1998, in honor of his fine volunteer efforts as chairperson of the Denton County Historical Commission Cemetery Committee.

The Denton County Historical Commission Cemetery Committee surveys all known cemeteries in the county,
active and abandoned. The results are kept in a Master Index File in the Courthouse on the Square. This file is available to anyone doing research.
The committee is continually locating cemeteries that have been forgotten (lost) and making this data a matter of record. Your assistance is appreciated in locating any cemeteries known by you so the files can be updated.
In addition, the DCHC has the exact location and some history of each cemetery and instructions for easy location. The known cemeteries are also filed by precinct with maps available of cemetery locations within each precinct. The DCHC, in conjunction with the County Probation Department, Public Works Department and the Sheriff's Department, cleans and maintains abandoned cemeteries throughout the county.
In the 1950's Lake Lewisville was enlarged and several abandoned cemeteries were moved to prevent them from being covered by water. In the early 1980's Lake Ray Roberts was established and several cemeteries, both active and abandoned were also moved to different locations.
For additional information or assistance please call the DCHC Office at (940)565-8697, (940) 565-8693 or (800) 246-3189.
