ARRIAGA, MRS. ISABEL HOLGUIN
76, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2001 in a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a Native American of the Tigua Tribe. Mrs. Arriaga was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Old Mission. She is survived by her sons, Enrique Holguin, Ramon Acosta and Arturo Arriaga Jr. Daughters, Guadalupe Holguin T. Melendez, Norma Holguin Arriaga, Isabel Holguin Arriaga Anchondo and Maria Andrea Holguin Byrley. 15 Grandchildren. 9 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home - Carolina. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Old Mission. Casarez, Mrs. Maria Teresa
"Terry" V. 61, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2001 in a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mrs. Casarez attended Burges High School and graduated from El Paso Technical High School in 1960. She worked for the El Paso County Court House and retired from the El Paso Independent School District as an Administration Secretary. Mrs. Casarez was preceded in death by her parents, Cruz D. Velasquez and Bersabeth R. Garcia. She is survived by her daughters, Lita Denise Sanchez and Arleen Dawn Casarez, Father, Nicolas Garcia and husband, Gus Casarez. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home - Carolina. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel. DAVILA, MANUEL ISMAEL
"Manito" was born in Chih., Mexico on Nov. 8, 1900. He lived and witnessed a century of world history. He survived many hardships and over-came many obstacles. On October 28, 2001, the Lord called him to his side. Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Carolina Solis Davila. They were married for 76 years. They had 12 children, sons: Manuel I. Davila, Jr., Mario Davila, Armando Davila, and Ramon Torres. Daughters: Maria E. Hernandez, Consuelo Pina, Rosario Richardson, Irene Resendez and Hilda Davila. They have 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Manuel immigrated to the United States September of 1937. He had no knowledge of the language but that did not stop him. He quickly found employ-ment and his employers valued his hard work ethic. He worked as a truck driver for many years. He was also a boxer because of his love for the sport and nicknamed "Manito" because of his huge hands. Manuel retired at the age of 74 and for the next 17 years he freely gave of his time and devotion to the Lord and the holy nuns of the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration. Manuel Davila was a loving husband, a devoted father and doting grandfather. We were gifted with his warm hugs, gentle smile, his wisdom and his humorous personality. The family would like to thank his doctors: Dr. Jose Silva, Dr. Galo Rodarte, Dr. Manuel L. Acosta, Dr. Eugenio Armendariz and the staff at Providence Memorial Hospital for their constant care and compassion. We will be forever thankful to the Lord for allowing him such a long and fruitful life. We are truly grateful to the Lord for bestowing upon us the greatest privilege; the privilege of being loved by this extraordinary man. Jones, Kenneth Aubrey
68, born August 28, 1933, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2001. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was a retired band teacher in the Ysleta Independent School District and he played in the El Paso Symphony for thirty years. He was the first band director for Eastwood High School and he wrote Eastwood High's Alma Mater and the school fight song. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Texas Western University, and he received a Master of Music Degree from Vandercook School of Music, University of Chicago. He served in Korea with the 8th Army Band. He is survived by his son, Dean Jones, a sister, Sandra Wray, a niece, Denise Yarbrough, and all of El Paso. He was preceded in death by his mother, Chloris Cummins, and his father, Kenneth Hale Jones. Graveside services will be at Ft. Bliss Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, November 2, 2001.

83, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001 in a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and was a member of San Antonio Catholic Church. Mrs. Molinar retired as a Baker with the El Paso Independent School District. He was a Civil Engineer for the City of El Paso. He is survived by the mother of his children, Susan J. Ruiz, his parents Celia Ruiz and Jesus Ruiz, his son, Anthony Ruiz, daughters, Lisa Ruiz, Charlene Ruiz, Shannan Ruiz, Dawn Ruiz, and Kristina Ruiz. 8 Grandchildren, 1 Brother and 3 Sisters. 84, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2001. She was a 46 year resident of El Paso. Mrs. Seitz was a member of the Wallace Hughston#1100 Order of the Eastern Star since 1960 and was a past matron for theorder. She was also a licensed practical nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital for approximately 10 years and was the manager of the Woolworths Retail Store at the Sunrise Shopping Center location. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Mr. John M. Seitz, her sons and daughters-in-law: John C. and IngerSeitz, Michael W. and Joyce Seitz and Thomas R. and Greta Seitz, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. CAMP, STEPHEN GREGORY
lived the American dream. He began his life in El Paso on November 25, 1951 and graduated 18 years later from Ft. Hancock High School. He attended UTEP, San Angelo State, and finally graduated from Texas A&M, December of 1973. In his lifetime he served in all three branches of government. He worked with several members of Congress in the US House of Representatives, the US Senate, for Democrats and Republicans, for the Majority and Minority. He worked in the executive branch of government as a career civil servant (economist Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) and as a Presidential appointee. After leaving Washington he returned to Ft. Hancock to operate the Ft. Hancock Motel, where he later was elected Judge, Precinct 2 Hudspeth County, Texas. Although he had an exciting life and went far in his career as the kid from West Texas, his one true love was to be a cowboy and live on a ranch which he did in his las days here on this earth. HILL, WILLIAM EDWARD
age 95, formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee, departed this life on Monday, October 22, 2001, in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Hill was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN. where he served faithfully in the Senior Choir for over 60 years. He was a dedicated employee of the Bank of Knoxville and Third National Bank until his retirement. A beloved wife, Mary Lucille Evans Hill, whom he was married to for 65 years and two daughters, Dr. Dorotha Lemeh and Wilma Jackson, RN, preceded him in death. He is survived by a very devoted daughter, Avice Hill Pleasants, and son-in-law, LTC (Ret) Leo Pleasants, of El Paso, Texas; one sister-in-law, Gladys Hill of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of dedicated friends, and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church family. Funeral and burial services were held in Knoxville on Saturday, October 27, 2001. Arrangements were by Jarnigan & Son Mortuary. Whittington, SFC James "Jim" F. USA (Ret) passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 001. 2 He was a resident of El Paso since 1964 and was a World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam veteran whom received numerous military decorations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sofie B. Whittington and is survived by his daughters, Helen Styles of N. Carolina, Viola Matthews and Jane Whittington; grandchildren, James, Shannon, Steven and Brandon; 4 great grandchildren and sisters, Ruby Beam and Martha Embler, both of N. Carolina. "Abuelita Chuma" Nacio el 25 de Agosto del 1903 en Santa Barbara, Chihuahua. Siendo sus padres, Domingo Muniz y Alejandra Gardea. En 1920, contrajo matrimonio con Jesus Chavira. De esta unioŠn procrearon cinco hijos y cuatro hijas, siendo estos: Jesus, Jose, Samuel, Salomon, Rosa, Socorro, Amalia, Adela, y Manuel. Sus hijos tuvieron una descendencia que en la actualidad llega a constar de: 44 nietos, 76 bisnietos, y 14 tataranietos. Le agradecemos a Dios que nos permito tenerla tantos anos (98), siendo ella el eje de union y felicidad de esta numerosa familia. El dia primero de Noviembre del 2001, nos dejo para reunirse con su esposo y su hijo, Jesus, que haban partido con anterioridad. Su ausencia la llenaran muchos gratos recuerdos que deja. passed away at a local hospital from respiratory complications on Saturday, November 3, 2001. Dr, Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Allen, his parents and a brother. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Allen and Raymond Allen. One grandson, two great-granddaughters, and one sister, Doctor Allen was born h1 Shelton, Nebraska on Ja1y 12, 1908. He teceived his degree in Veteriuary Medicine home Kansas State University in 1933. After graduation, he began his career with the US Department of Agriculture. Just prior to his first assignment, he married Ada Grace Lorimer of 01athe, Kansas who he met while they were both students at Kansas State University. Ris career assignments took Itim to Arkansas, New Mexico, and finally to E1 Faso in 1957. He retired from the USI)A in March of 1973 after 39 years of service. After his retirement he became active in several El Paso student clubs, including the 4-H clubs, as an instructor of animal care and breeding. He was also a member of the American flimalayah Rabbit Breeders Association, a]ld raised rabbits for showing. He was a qualified Registcar for different breeds of rabbits, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of El Paso. 64, a Coldwell Banker Sales Associates, passed away Friday, November 2, 2001 in Fort Worth, TX. Mr. Neuhaus was a longtime El Paso resident before moving to Fort Worth in 1995. He worked for Marcia Coleman and Associates and had also been employed by various garment manufacturers. He was a member of First Christian Church in Arlington where he was active in the music program. While in El Paso he was Elder and Deacon at First Christian Church and also was active in Youth Sponsorship and the Music Programs of the church. He was preceded in death by his father, John P. Neuhaus in 1984 and is survived by his lovnig and devoted wife of 41 years, Darlene Neuhaus of Forth Worth; daughter and son-in- law, Amy and John Gilliam of Arlington; grandchildren, Jessica Leigh and John Michael gilliam II of Arlington; mother, Charlotte Neuhaus of Canton, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Ann Dreyer and husband, Howard of Davenport, Iowa, Nancy Trevorrow of Los Angeles, California and Debra Ocepek and husband, Robert "Adam" Ocepek of Canton, Ohio; mother-in-law, Bernice Tippett of Fort Worth; brother-in- law, Chuck Dierikx and wife, Mary Lou of Lufkin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2001. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was born on March 14, 1926 in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and went on to graduate from LSU, where she was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mary Jane moved to El Paso in 1969, where she was one of the founders of Tres Mariposas and co- owner of GaiBo Fashions. During her retirement she loved to play bridge with her friends, shop, travel, and attend church wherever her travels took her. Mary Jane is survived by her husband Phillip Haas, her son Bill Ward, his wife Susan, and grandchildren Holly, Christian, Cayce, and Austen; her daughter Kathleen Lambert and her husband Jeff and grandson Sean Carlisle. She also is survived by sons John Haas, Robert Haas and his wife Svectlana, and grandchildren Daniel, Natasha and Ashley. Mary Jane was loved by many, many friends who will have an empty spot in their lives now that she has gone. A memorial service will be held for Mary Jane at St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church on Thursday, November 8, at 4:30 p.m. Donations can be made to the St. Francis Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

He was a retired Army Veteran from War World II and Korean War. Hayashi, Tarow Ty
24 Oct 1927-5 Nov 2001 Professor Tarow Ty Hayashi was an icon in the martial arts community in El Paso since 1955. He founded the International Zen Martial Arts Federation of North America. He developed his own fighting systems that incorporated the concepts and techniques from various Japanese Martial Arts. Over the years thousands of students have passed through his humble Dojo and have been awed by his knowledge and skill in the martial arts. In 1993 Professor Tarow Ty Hayashi was inducted into the El Paso Boxing Martial Arts Hall of Fame. His son continues this legacy, as his systems continue to be taught here in El Paso at Hayashi's Martial Arts Academy. He will continue to live on in the spirit of the martial arts for many generations to come. Professor Hayashi is survived by his son, daughters and grandchildren. Stopani, Floyd Kenneth
50, went to heaven to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 6, 2001. Floyd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Floyd had a BS Degree in Anthropology from UTEP, and was a licensed Pastor with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. He was an active master judge with the American Iris Society. He married Helen in 1974, and his wife and children (and later, his grandchildren) were the loves of his life. At the time of his death, he was working as manager for the El Paso Independent School District James Gamble Warehouse. Floyd loved extravagantly, and set a wonderful example for us all of how an ordinary working man could show forth the love of God in practical ways. He was loved far and wide in this community, and will be deeply missed. Floyd is survived by his wife Helen Stopani, his children Ryan, Erin, and Matthew "Buzz" Stopani, a daughter-in-law Kathy Stopani, his mother Luella Danielson, a brother Wayne Stopani, sisters Ilda Staehling and Sheila Vermillion, and two grandchildren, Emily and Christopher. 87, died November 8, 2001 in Southhampton Memorial Hospital. Born in 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she was a daughter of the late Lars Oscar and Hilda Kapell Lysen who immigrated here from Finland and Sweden. She was the widow of Lt. Col. Leo J. Weiland. Mrs. Weiland, who relocated to Franklin a year ago having spent the later part of her life in El Paso, Texas, was an accomplished artist and belong to several art societies including the Oil Painters and Fine Arts Guild in El Paso, Texas. She taught art and worked in several recreation centers with the elderly. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah A. Hagen and her husband, Duane, of Sedley and Danita Mancini of Carmel, New York; a sister, Agnes Thomsen of Salome, Arizona; six grandchildren, Jamie Neff, Jennifer Fox, Laraine Unik, Linnea Maloney, Sarah Hagen and Nicolas Hagen; four great grandchildren, Nicole Piazza, Wescott Unik, Taylor and Charlie Maloney. She was predeceased by a brother Edward Lysen. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Carl DeSouza officiating. Turner, Judith Farley
1940-2001 Judith Farley Turner passed away on November 7, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Waco, Texas on February 11, 1940; she came to El Paso with her family and spent her life here finishing school, and raising her family. She was very active in real estate during the 70's. Since that time she was an independent business owner. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Turner, her three sons and their wives: Dow Farley and wife Krystyne, Mitch Farley and wife Bella, and Trevor Farley with wife Renee. Judy is also survived by Johnny's children: Christian Turner and wife Sultan, Todd Turner and wife Sharon, and Marjey Sell with husband Phil. She is also survived by one sister Nonna Lee and husband Ray, ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ora Lee Chaney, sister Ruth Hunt, brother Bob Chaney, and her son's father, Quincy Farley. Colonel U.S. Army. Resident of El Paso 38 years. Born in Fort Des Moines, Iowa, April 25, 1911. Graduate of Auburn University in Chemical Engineering and was an Engineer with Civil Conservation Corps. Landed on D-Day with the 101st Airborne Division and fought in the Battle of Bulge in Bastogne. He was an instructor at the Air Defense School and a Commander Range Command at Ft. Bliss. He taught mathematics at Andress High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letitia and sisters Kathleen Dibble and Marguerite Gressemer. Survivors include his sons, John of Aberdeen, Maryland and Charles of Santa Clara, California. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

94, passed away November 10, 2001, preceded in death byher husband of 63 years, Virgil, and son Gordon. She died on the 8th anniversary of the death of her beloved husband. Born in McKinney, Texas on January 6, 1907, she and Virgil resided in Dallas for 50 years before moving to El Paso in 1992. Survived by daughter, Carolyn Jurey, grandchildren Neil Johnson, wife Ele and daughter Sabrina; Lisa Johnson, great-grandson Sebastian Bettencourt, all of El Paso; Gordon Hines, Jr. and wife Lisa and great- grandson, Connor of Coppell, TX; Mark Hines and wife Julie of Minnetonka, Minnesota. Mrs. Hines was a member of the Faith Bible Class at First Baptist Church in El Paso. Prior to moving to El Paso, she was a member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas for 50 years and was WMU President from 1944-1945. Valedictorian of her senior class, she graduated from Business College and went to work for the Ford Agency. In 1960 she began working for the Dallas Independent School District, retiring in 1972. She was a loving Mother and superb cook. A long time member of Eastern Star, a P.T.A. President, Cub Scout Leader, she served the Camp Fire organization for 10 years. Until recent, she maintained her independence, despite being legally blind for the last 17 years. 72, born on May 29, 1929 in Groom, Tx., passed away Saturday, November 10, 2001 in El Paso. He worked for General Electric X-Ray in June of 1956 and moved to El Paso in 1957. He later became a partner in Holmes & Schneider Inc. where he worked for several years. He then formed his own company Accutron and most recently had been owner of Med-Tech Part Sales. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from March of 1951 to December 1955, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Schneider married Joan Schaefer in November 1950 in Linn, Mo. Then he later married Monica Houghton in May 1982, she preceded him in death in 1992. He is survived by his sons, Daniel Schneider and William Schneider. Maria Luisa Close retired from the Popular Dry Goods Department store and had lived at the Chelsea Retirement Home until she was 99. Until her death, She had been cared for by Marie Antoinette Barrueta, in Houston and will be brought to El Paso for burial. During the last twelve months, she had also resided with Oscar & Helen Maldonado, her great grandson and wife in Houston, Texas. 87, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2001. Born in Missouri she came to El Paso with her family in 1928. She graduated from Austin High School and received her Bachelor Degree from the College of the Mines in 1938. Prior to World War II she taught in Canutillo and the County School District, she worked as a court stenographer at Biggs Field during World War II. After the War she went back to college and got her Masters Degree at Texas Western College. In 1948 she went to the Ysleta School District to teach at Ysleta High School. She was beloved Varsity Choir Teacher. She taught at Ysleta High School from 1948 until 1961, at which time she was promoted to Supervisor of Choral Music for the Ysleta District. In 1969 she was named the Director of Music Education for the Ysleta District. At the time of her retirement in 1980, she was Director of the entire Fine Arts Department. She taught private piano and voice lessons and led childrens church choirs, she was also a member of the First Baptist Church since 1928. She served on the Texas State Board of Music Educators, also a member of the EPSO Board. She is survived by her nephew Paul L. Ford. 78, passed away Wednesday November 14, 2001. Mrs. Van Doren was a resident of El Paso since 1930. Dorris Van Doren was the only Emeritus member of the Library Association, and was instrumental in starting the westside branch library on Belvidere. Mrs. Van Doren was also an elementary school teacher, teaching reading for 22 years. She also served as a Lay Minister in the Methodist Church. Dorris led an athletic life. She rode her bicycle all over Texas and through at least half of the United States. She was also well traveled. She had been to Scotland, England, Holland, France, Belgium, Germany, and New Zealand and she rode her bicycle through most of them. She even rode her Honda motorcycle from her home here in El Paso to her cabin in Cloudcroft, while her husband, Donald, followed her in a van. Mrs. Van Doren is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald. They have 3 children, 3 randchildren, and 2 great grandchildren of whom they are very proud. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 19, 2001 at 11:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 2800 Pershing Drive. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery. CHEW, RICHARD CHUCK LUM
a business man for over fifty years in El Paso, Texas, died on Thursday, November 15, 2001, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was ninety years of age. Mr. Chew was born in Canton, China in 1911. He immigrated to the United States in 1932 as a student, attending the University of Richmond for 1 1/2 years before transferring to the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1938 with a degree in Business. After graduation, he moved to El Paso, Texas where he, his brother, and his father established the Chew Din Groceries. During WWII, he worked in the shipyards in Richmond, California. Mr. Chew and his wife, Lillian, were life-long advocates of the importance of education, and they were donors to the El Paso Public Libraries. For the last four years, he was also a senior volunteer at the Ysleta Public Library. He is survived by his six children, Faye and her huband, Paul Lee, Richard and his wife, Jean, Lai and her husband, Mike Orenduff, Wayne and his wife, Elaine, Karr and her hsuband, Bruce Tomberg, and Pat and her husband, Robert Kelley; his grandchildren, Gary Lee, Pamela Lee Suboc, and Alan Lee, Carolyn, Chuck, andKaren Chew, Jay and Claire Orenduff, Erik and Ryan Tomberg, and Lauren and LukeKelley-Chew; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Lee and Natalie Suboc. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Sinn of Houston, Texas, his cousin, Paul Chew of Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. passed away November 14, 2001. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas and was a nurse with Newark Clinic. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Jesus A. Casas: daughter, Judith Vega; sons, Armando and Daniel Casas; grandchildren, Kelli Jo Casas and Jacob Vega. Two sisters and three brothers also survive her. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church (1050 N. Clark) on November 20th, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. Private interment will follow after the Memorial Mass.

Henry LeClaire lost his long and courageous battle with cancer on November 17, 2001. Born January 19, 1937 to parents Henry and Jane in Norton, Massachusetts, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1954-1977. Upon retiring from military service in El Paso, he was employed with the Legal Publishing Company, Matthew Bender until October 1997. An avid and life-long bridge player, he earned the elite title of Gold Life Master and was a member of the Bridge Club of El Paso for over 40 years. His life will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 46 years, Sallyand five children, Jeffrey, Dean, Lisa, Christi, and Nicole. He was blessed with seven granddaughters, Renee, Jeanna, Danielle, Brooke, Shelby, Chelsea, and Cameron, and is additionally survived by a sister, Geraldine Lemelin of Conneticut and brother William LeClaire of Massachusetts. He lived every day of hislife to the fullest and would want and expect all those that loved him to do the same. ?Life is for the living? he was often quoted as saying and he passed believing that wholeheartedly. He will be missed terribly but we will take comfort in knowing his was a life lived and lived well. Final resting place will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. 71, returned home to our Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 17, 2001. Eleonore, was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Very active in giving to the community in need. She was born Eleonore Jakoncic in Salzburg, Austria June 19, 1930. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Al S. Johnson retired veteran originally from Tazwell, Tennessee. She is survived by her daughters, Marieluise Moyer and Yvonne Johnson, grandchildren, Christine Vanenzuela, Michael Moyer, Daniel Johnson, great-grandchildren, Brandy Rivera, Samuel Aaron Acevedo, all of El Paso. LAMBERT, JOSEPH S.
"Jay" (Lt. Col. Ret. USAF), passed away on November 14, 2001. He was born in Ravensdale, Washington in 1911, educated in Europe, and served in Panama in the U.S. Army during the Great Depression. Joseph graduated from the University of Pittsburg with highest honors in 1938 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the National Guard and was the highest-ranking member of his ROTC class while at Pittsburgh, Drum Major of the marching band, and President of the Senior Military Ball. He was commissioned an officer in the Army after graduation and soon moved to the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the military he earned Master's Degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering, and a PH.D. in Electrical Engineering, all from the University of Michigan. He retired from the military in 1959 and did research and taught at the University of New Mexico before moving to Texas Western College in 1965 as Director of Schellenger Research Laboratories. He retired as a full Professor from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1980. He was a member of the Westside Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the American Legion, Eastwood Post 36. He loved gardening, tennis, and photography. He spent many hours during his retirement studying and writing on the Unified Field Theory. His wife Kathyrn predeceased him in 1986 and his son Jay in 1988. He is survived by his second son Jeff, and wife Kathleen, currently of Vancouver, BC, and his sister, Frances, of Cambridge, Ohio. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, 11:00 A.M. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. passed away Saturday, November 17, 2001. She has resided in El Paso since 1990 and was a retired teacher from the Houston Public Schools. Mrs. Parker was born December 2, 1908, in Woodville, Texas, and was one of nine children of C.A. and Sarah F. Young. She was predeceased by her husband Gilly Parker, Houston, TX and three brothers from El Paso, Sam D. Young, Sr., Mike W. Young and Jack R. Young. She earned her RN degree at St. Francis Hospital in Freeport, IL. On December 22, 1945, Henrietta married George Iwen in Madison, WI. They lived in Iowa City, IA, Green Bay, WI, Dallas, TX and El Paso, TX before moving to Fargo in 1979. She is survived by her husband, Dr. George Iwen, Fargo; one daughter, Mary (Doug) Hansen, Fargo; one son, Fred (Siobhan) Iwen, Houston, TX; two sisters, Augusta Willy, Lodi, WI and Josephine Nyman, Rockford, IL; one sister-in-law, Emily Ann (Al) Wheeler, Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren, Nichol (Trent) Osborne, Ipswich, SD; Joseph Hamm, Katie Hamm, and Lindsey Hansen, Fargo, ND; Christopher Iwen and Benjamin Iwen, Houston, TX; one great granddaughter, Kendra Osborne, Ipswich, SD; and three nephews and four nieces. 80, passed away Friday, November 16, 2001 in Covina, California. Mr. Renteria was born in Durango, Mexico. He moved to El Paso with his family in 1956. He worked for the airline industry for 25 years and around 1963 he began working in the hospitality industry. He worked at the Airport Holiday Inn for over 20 years as a sales manager prior to retiring in 1997. For the past three and a half years his home was in Covina, California. However, as was his wish, he is returning to be reunited with his mother, father and sister at Mount Carmel Cemetery. He has many friends in El Paso and is survived by his wife, Blassie F. He was a theatre professor and playwright at the University of Texas in El Paso, and Union College in Schenectady, New York. Survivors include his wife, Ann Wingate; and three sons, Lynn Michael Wingate, Mark Lester Wingate, and David Kean Wingate. He was born July 3, 1940 in El Paso to the late Donald Joseph and Elsa Meece Kiely. Mr. Kiely had worked for Alcoa for 19 years and was the owner of Industrial Technical Services. Mr. Kiely was a member of the St. Philips Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club, and Toastmasters. Mr. Kiely was preceded in death by his parents. 95, passed away Saturday November 24, 2001 at home in White Acres Assisted Living under the care of Hospice VNA. He had lived in El Paso since 1955. Mr. Kirkwood taught in Texas a total of 42 years with 6 years as Superintendent of Plemons School District and 15 years (1955-70) at Jefferson High School. He served in the U.S. Air Corps in WWII, was a life member of the El Paso Retired Teachers Assoc., and member of Trinity First United Methodist Church. John R. Kirkwood is survived by his wife, Lowell, whom he married in 1938. He leaves loving nieces and nephews, great nieces & nephews, in-laws & friends. 67, passed away on Saturday November 25, 2001. A long time resident of El Paso, Texas, Joan retired last year as Director of Special Programs at El Paso Community College. Her community involvement has included Board Member, El Paso Chapter of the American Heart Association; Chair, El Paso Mayor's Advisory Board on Aging; Member, the Rio Grande Council of Government and The El Paso Family Pride Council for Prevention of Child Abuse. On a Statewide basis, she has served as a Board Member for the Texas Association for Community Service and Continuing Education. Prior to moving to El Paso Joan was Director of Nursing at San Juan College, Farmington, NM. During her years in Farmington, she established the initial practical nurse curriculum and developed the proposal which was approved by the New Mexico Board of Nursing creating the Associate Degree in Nursing Program. As a result of her contributions to San Juan College, Joan was elected to the San Juan College Hall of Fame in 1999. Joan was recognized for numerous achievements in her personal and professional life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon. Joan was active in the DR chapter of PEO, and Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. She held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa and had earned a Masters in Educational Administration from New Mexico State University. Joan was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Byron M. Bury of St. Louis, Missouri, and is survived by her Mother, Lucille S. Bury, her husband Terry R. McCollister and their three children, Chris McCollister and family of Trophy Club, Texas, J. Gregory McCollister and family of Roswell, Georgia, and Kathryn McCollister-Wohnoutka and family of Seattle, Washington and the families' five grandchildren, Blake, Daniel, Katy, Anna and Jacob. She is additionally survived by two sisters and a brother; Kathryn Musholt of Akron, Ohio, and Jayne Leet of Seattle, Washington, and Byron C. Bury of Chesterfield, Missouri. 84, passed from her earthly life into the Lord's hands on Saturday, November 24, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William J. Slaughter. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, taking an ever- active role in the lives of her children as a Girl Scout troop leader, Cub Scout den mother and room mother for many years. She also volunteered as a vision screener in the E.P. school district and enjoyed her years as a volunteer at Thomason General Hospital gift shop. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by her sisters of the Gamma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, of which she was a member for almost 50 years and was a past President. She was also a member of Desert View United Church of Christ. RINGQUIST, MR. DANIEL A.
died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2001 at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born, November 22, 1919 in Yankton, South Dakota, he was the son of Daniel Arvid Ringquist and Ellen Albertina Goranson. He graduated from Yankton High School and moved to Washington D.C. with his sister Fern Ringquist where he worked for Senator Chang Gureney. He was a 1st Lt. Cadet Pilot and an instructor in the U.S. Air Force during World War II also serving as a bombardier and radar expert. While stationed in Deming, New Mexico, on August 5, 1944, he married Glenna Ruth Martin. They have been married 57 years. After leaving the Army Air Force, Mr. Ringquist attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. He retired in 1976 from El Paso Water Utilities as Data Processing Manager where he served for approximately 15 yeas. His hobbies included woodwork and photography. Mr. Ringquist is survived by his wife Glenna Martin Ringquist of Las Cruces, New Mexico, daughter Diana Neblett of Dallas, Texas, son Daniel G. Ringquist of Smithburg, Maryland, two sisters, Ruth Olson of Omaha, Nebraska, Fern Ringquist of Las Cruce, New Mexico, nieces Joan Larson of Ft. SEGULIA, FRANCES
81, prominent Tornillo author, historian and cotton farmer passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2001. Frances Fawn Tippit was born in Lamar Oklahoma on April 18, 1920 to Jacob Monroe Dudley and Myrtle Osceola Tippit Dudley. She moved to Tornillo in 1934 and graduated from Tornillo High School in 1936. On June 3, 1937 Frances married John Segulia and began farming in the Tornillo area. She had two children, Mary Osceola Segulia and Vincent Jacob Segulia. Through her association with the El Paso Writer's League and the late Lenore Dils, Frances wrote several articles published in Password and other southwestern publications. Her writing career culminated in the book "Moments in Time", a comprehensive history of the Tornillo farming community. Along with her other endeavors, Frances was an avid genealogist. Frances was a life member of both the Texas and National PTA, an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, prominent member of the El Paso County Historical Society, and a charter member of The American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island. She was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church. Her family and the entire Tornillo community whom she saw as her extended family loved Frances and delighted in her wit and her concern for others. All who were fortunate enough to have known her will miss her. Grandchildren, Gary Bruce McElroy, Jr. of Horizon City, Julie McElroy Laughlin and husband Donald R. Laughlin of Fort Worth, Vincent John McElroy and wife Carla McElroy of Fort Worth, and Mark Osceola McElroy and wife Laurie Ann McElroy of Aledo, Texas survive Frances along with great grandchildren Travis Scott Armstrong of San Angelo, Alyssa Kay Laughlin of Fort Worth, Mary Kalista and Kaycee Fawn McElroy of Aledo, Vincent John (Jake) McElroy, Jr. of Fort Worth along with numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her husband John Segulia and her children Mary Osceola McElroy and Vincent Jacob (Bud) Segulia. Visitation will be held at Harding-Orr and McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana, on Thursday November 29th from 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3500 McRae, on Friday November 30th at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Chester King officiating. Pallberaers will be Johnny McElroy, Travis Armstrong, Don Laughlin, Bill Lovelady, Davis Lee Holdman, and Perry Holdman. STEELE, FRANK JOSEPH
"RUSTY" 76, of El Paso passed away November 25, 2001. Rusty was born October 27, 1925, in El Paso. He was a journeyman pipefitter, having worked in the industry for over 38 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the U.S. and Canada, as well as Local Unions 231 of El Paso and 525 of Las Vegas, Nevada. Rusty was a veteran of WW II, having served as an Army Air Corp flight radio operator in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Rusty is survived by a daughter - Tina Stephens of Phoenix, AZ, a step-daughter - Pat Jones of Fort Worth, TX, and two sons - Bret Steele of Stewartsville, NJ and Todd Steele of Refugio, TX, as well as 9 beautiful grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters - Marilyn Mucha of El Paso and Varda Myers of Phoenix, two brothers - Harry Steele of El Paso and Bruce Steele of Hillsboro, Oregon, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 4 brothers - Roy Steele, Jim Willis, Ralph Willis and Irving "Popeye" Steele, and one sister, Nelda Peel. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 1, at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass in El Paso.

passed away at 9:30 P.M., November 27, 2001 at a local hospital. She was the loving wife of Gordon W. Sperberg also of El Paso. Mrs. Sperberg was born in Lily, Wisconsin, on August 23rd, 1925 and resided in El Paso since 1984. She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church serving in a number of positions including the Parish Choir and the Church Secretary. She was also an active member of the volunteer staff at Hospice of El Paso where everyone with whom she worked and served loved her. Laurene was a loving wife for 52 years and made her home a true heaven on earth. She has now made her permanent home with her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. Loving mother of two sons, Jonathan and wife Sharon of Gilbert, Arizona, Mark and wife Linda of Orlando, Florida and one daughter, Marcia and husband Charles Louis of Norwalk, Connecticut. She was a loving grandmother of two grandsons, Jonathan Gordon II of Florence, Arizona and Samuel Gordon of San Diego, California. Visitation will be held Friday, November 30, 2001 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home West.
