From: AMBurton < andy -at- ski-quest -dot- com > Sat, 3 Mar 2001 TO: The Several who wrote Historical Messages for Independence Day and emailed them to me I am Andy Marcellus Burton, born in 1922 at Cost, Gonzales County,Texas about 3 miles from where the first shot was fired. I am a student of Texas History and enjoyed the messages. A bit more history from memory: I was present for the ceremony in 1936 in the Cost School Auditorium when Governor James V. Allred unveiled and dedicated the monument. I also remember the flood in 1936 when the Gonzales cannon was uncovered in a peach orchard and a rural mail carrier brought it to the Post Office. It was on display in the lobby when I applied for my Social Security card, which I still carry. I graduated from GHS in 1939, and still have roots there.....Andy Burton, Houston, Texas.......
