*Quarantine Declared - for Gonzales County. Spinal meningitis in Mang place and trying to
prevent it from getting into Gonzales County. All roads leading into Gonzales county to be
guarded - Guards placed at railroad. No one may leave Gonzales county or no one can come in.

*Meningitis at Waelder. 2 cases reported (colored). As extra precaution all schools closed; public
gatherings prohibited, churches closed, extra guards placed on Waelder, Stieren, Rancho,
Harwood roads. No one to come to Gonzales from that section. 18 Jan 1912

*All persons who arrived in gonzales onTuesday, Jan. 16, to be placed in a detention camp
located one mile northwest of city (known as the County Poor House). 18 Jan 1912

*Titan Sank - 2 column story, 16, 17 April 1912

*Ax Man - Excitement among Negroes in Gonzales over recent killings by the Ax Man in various
places in Texas. Negroes are arming themselves and can't sleep at night for fear of him. He only
kills those with white blood in their veins. 18 April 1912

*Annual Session of South Texas Odd Fellows & Rebekah closed today. Lists names. 15 May
1912

*From a Negro Educator - Thanking editor for speaking of his presence in Gonzales and "uplift of
my people". He says God sent the Negro into slavery so that theycould loearn 1, How to Labor,
2, How to think, 3, How to obey, 4, to Give the Negro a Christian civilaztion. Signed J.b. Rayner,

*Unknown man killed by train on railroad between Yoakum and Lockhart at Post 152, 6 Aug
1912 - Papers found on the man identified him as William A. Hamilton, but nothing to tell where
helived or relatives' names. 8 Aug 1912

*Nixon Ice Co. has put in a creamery. 17 Aug 1912

*Belmont news writer tells of visiting Confederate Home in Austin, names those he saw: Mr.
Parnel, Mr. Braden, and Mr. Frank White of Gonzales Co., J.T. Cone of Colorado County. Says
Frank White built the first house in Waelder. 3 Sept 1912

*Isom Smith family moved to DeWitt Colony 1840. This tells what his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth
Murphy, has to say about early Gonzales history. Very good. Tells about 2 men who had a log
store. One named Joseph Hamilton. He bought a ship load of pecans and shipped them to New
York. They didn't sell so Joe went to N.Y. and peddled them himself. Thus a market was made
for our pecans. 10 Oct 1912

*Laws Unjust to Women - Tells that when a woman marries in Texas the husband has sole
management of all her separate property, all her money, notes, and even her wearing apparel! This
is what Mrs. W. H. Ward of Texas says and she is trying to get it changed. A long article. 18 Oct

*Annual County Fair started today (20 Nov 1912). Awards listed at Fair, to whom and what. 22

*New theater opens tonight in the Hoskin Buiding. Three feature films on tonight's bill.

*Simo, George, sold candy kitchen to return to his native country, Macedonia to help in the war
against Turkey. 9 Dec 1912
