Gonzales Inquirer November 28, 1881 Our good citizen J. O. Davis can be seen with pleasing smiles on his face every day; he was married to Miss Laura Braley last week, at the residence of the bride's father, Rev. J. S. Abbott officiating. Jim has a good and worthy companion, and is now occupying his new and neat residence in town. He is to be congratulated, and we hope his smiles may never be changed to frowns, by life's adversities (sic), which the Sitter hopes will be but few, (even) if he didn't get any cake. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: The Davis' new residence was in the town of Waelder. The couple had no children, and both are buried in Roscoe, Nolan County, Texas. Mary Laura was the daughter of E. A. and Rebecca Jane (Weaver) Braley. She was born in Montgomery County, Alabama. James O. Davis was the son of James S. and Elizabeth (Wilburn) Davis of Thompsonville.
