Fundamental Baptist Church of Haskell

On April 8, 1939, the following baptized believers in Christ met for the purpose of organizing a Fundamental Baptist Church at Haskell, Texas:

Among our charter members were Rev. C. Jones, Rev. Ernest Marion and Rev. J. L. Scheets who are regular ordained ministers of the gospel, and C. W. Marion and John Brunner, ordained deacons.

Rev. C. Jones, Rev. H. G. Hammer and Rev. Ernest Marion assisted in the organization. C. Jones was elected moderator and Lillian Townsend, clerk. Rev. Hammer read these scriptures: Luke 24-45; Acts 2 37-47, also the article of "Faith" and Rev. Ernest Marion, the "Church Covenant" as found in Pendleton's church manual, read and adopted and the right hand of fellowship extended each other by the members. After which the church was declared duly organized. Mrs. Lillian Townsend was unanimously elected permanent clerk and treasurer. Rev. C. Jones was asked to full the pulpit Sunday and Sunday night. A motion and second was made to consider the call of a pastor the next Wednesday night. The privilege of the church was extended and Mr. Corbet Lytle and his daughter, Maxine, came forward for membership upon their experience of grace and baptism. A motion was made and seconded that they be received upon their experience of grace as a candidate for baptism and, after baptism, into the full fellowship of the church. Motion carried. A motion and second that the church meet each Wednesday night for prayer meeting, and that the first Wednesday of each month shall be set apart for business session of the church.

Sunday night, April 9, 1939, Miss Alta Mae Johnson came for membership upon a promise of a letter from Throckmorton Baptist Church.

On April 12 the Fundamental Baptist Church met for prayer service and the purpose of calling a pastor. After prayer service, the church was called to order. Rev. Ernest Marion acted as moderator. A motion was made and seconded to call Rev. C. Jones as pastor and, by unanimous standing vote, was elected for an indefinite time.

Sunday April 16 at the 11 o'clock hour, the privilege of the church was extended and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stovall presented themselves for membership by statement. At the evening service Mr. W. H. Hall came for membership by statement.

Sunday April 23, Mr. Corbet Lytle and daughter, Maxine, were baptized and after baptism received into full fellowship of the church.

At the 11 o'clock hour, May 7, Mrs. B. T. Cowley came for membership by letter.
