William N. Kay
Erath County and Haskell County, TexasFancy S. "Fannie" Kay was born in Erath County, Texas, in July, 1873. She taught school in Sagerton in 1910 TX Census and rural Haskell in 1930 TX Census and was still living in Haskell with 3 boarders in the 1930 TX census. She was the daughter of William N. Kay and his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Kay. Bettie's maiden name is not known, but an online notation says it may be Myers.
Fannie's brother, William, and her father, William N. Kay, probably died in Erath County before the 1900 TX Census, but her mother, Mary Elizabeth and Fannie lived in Haskell County later. John L. Kay, another brother, may have lived there at one time. His middle name may be Louis. Mary Elizabeth was born 7 Jan 1847 and died on 30 Nov 1929 and is buried in Willow Cemetery. John was born in Nov 1869 and died 18 Mar 1929 (maybe in Tarrant County) and is also buried in Willow Cemetery. It is not known whether or not he married and had a family. A photo online of the monument in the cemetery shows information for all three on this monument. No death date is given for Fannie. Years of birth and death only are listed for the other two.
Ron Kay of Anderson, South Carolina, is researching the family and wonders if anyone remembers Fannie Kay, the teacher, or knows any Kay family relatives who still live in the area. Did John marry? Did he have children? A listing was seen of a Mrs. John Kay in the Willow Cemetery. Maybe this info is on another nearby monument. These are some of the questions Ron is hoping to find answers for. He would especially like the hear more about Fannie Kay and her teaching career in Haskell County and to hear more about her brother, John L. Kay.
