Lynn and Beulah Toliver, Haskell County, Texas
Lynn and Beulah (Lewellen) Toliver on their 60th Anniversary, November 1977

Abner Toliver & his wife, Eliza Jane (Meddick) Toliver, came to Haskell County from Killeen, Texas, in the early 1900s. They lived in the Brushy Community with their family of 10 children, and worked for the Holt family. One son, Lynn, was a carpenter and worked on and built, many buildings and homes in Haskell over the years. He married Beulah Lewellen on November 25, 1917, in a buggy in front of the Methodist Church in Haskell.

When Lynn and Beulah were first married, they did not go to her family's home for a while. Her father, Call Lewellen, did not think Lynn was good enough for Beulah because his family did not own land. But, as time passed, Cal found out Lynn was the best son-in-law a man could have.

After building a fine rock home for his in-laws, Lynn showed what he was capable of. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church and he and Beulah helped establish the East Side Baptist Church. Then, after moving to town in 1942, they began attending the First Baptist Church in Haskell. Lynn led many young men to Jesus and two of them became preachers.

When he died on 13 June 1986 at the age of 87, he was buried in Willow Cemetery. One of those helping to lead his funeral was a young man who had become a preacher thanks to Lynn's work in the church. Beulah died 10 May 2000 and was buried beside Lynn. They had nearly 70 years together, enduring the hardships and joys of living good lives.
