Elbert Hershall Burnett (1910-2012)

  Haskell - Elbert Hershall "E.H." Burnett of Haskell, Texas passed away Monday evening, October 1, 2012, at Haskell Healthcare Center in Haskell. Mr. Burnett was 102 years young. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012, at Willow Cemetery in Haskell with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Elbert Hershall Burnett (1910-2012)
  Elbert was born June 5, 1910, in Dublin, Texas to Pleasant Alley and Lillie (Daffern) Burnett. He married Edna Wilson in Carlsbad, New Mexico on June 20, 1931, and they lived a loving 65 years together prior to Edna's death. E. H. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Haskell and was a retired famer/rancher.
  In addition to Mrs. Burnett, E.H. is also preceded in death by his parents, Alley and Lillie Burnett; brother, Normie Burnett; sister, Lillie Fay Dent; grandson, Randell Lacey; brother-in-law, Ernest Shillingberg; and son- in-law, Cotton Foster.
  He is survived by his 1 daughter, Dolores Foster of Haskell; 1 son, Charles Burnett and his wife Joetta of Haskell; 6 grandchildren, Craig Foster and wife Shadella of Bridgeport, Steven Foster and wife Gina of Godley, Ray Burnett and wife Terry of Pilot Point, Tamara Burnett Lewis and husband Andre' of Paradise, and Tim Lacey and wife Kim of Amarillo; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill Dent and wife June of Abilene; sister, Bertha Shillingberg of Tempe; 1 nephew; and 2 nieces.

Emma Jean Lisle Cloud (1920-2012)

  Rule - Funeral services for Emma Jean Cloud will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Interment will take place immediately following at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Saturday evening, September 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule.
  Emma Jean Lisle Cloud, age 91, was born November 10, 1920, and passed from this life to her heavenly home on September 27, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas.
  She was born in Benjamin, Texas to parents James Albert Lisle and Ola Mae Pike Lisle. The oldest of four children, Emma Jean's siblings are James A. Lisle, Jr., June Lisle White, and Helen Lisle Pinkard, who has preceded her in death.
  Emma Jean was married to Joe B. Cloud in Rule, Texas on November 24, 1945. Her husband, Joe B., passed away on August 22, 2000.
  She is survived by her son, Joe Harold Cloud of Rule; daughter, Caron Thornbury and husband Dan of Lubbock; grandson, Capt. Scott Thornbury serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Afghanistan, and his wife Rose of Manhattan, Kansas; a granddaughter, Angela Thornbury of Plano, Texas; sister-in-law, Jo Ruth Lisle of Rule; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
  Emma Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rule and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her loving family.
  The family would like to express a very special thank you to the staff and all employees of the Phoenix House in Lubbock and to Odyssey Hospice for the excellent care that was provided to our dear one during her illness.

E. C. Collins


  Haskell - Memorial services for E.C. Collins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Church of Christ in Haskell with Phil Sims officiating. The family will receive visitation Sunday evening, September 30 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at 207 North Avenue H. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Mr. Collins was buried in Willow Cemetery.
  Surrounded by his family, E.C. Collins of Haskell, Texas, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, September 27, 2012. This kind, gentle man with a great sense of humor never met a stranger and reached out to many folks who needed a word of encouragement. E.C.'s four children came into his life when he married Ellen Neeley Money, and he raised each of them to think he or she was his favorite.
  E.C. had many vocations throughout his life including Precinct 4, Haskell County Commissioner, and West Texas Utilities Company journeyman, but his beloved calling was The Pink Ladies Auxiliary organization which he founded with his wife, Jenny Brazell Collins in 1992. The Pink Ladies organization continues to influence and benefit Haskell County at the thrift store on the square in Haskell.
  E.C. is survived by daughter, Cathy Money Poe and husband Robert of El Paso, Texas; 2 sons, Steve Money and wife Tammy of Haskell, and Mike Money of Houston; granddaughters, Sara Poe Smith and husband Tim and Stephanie Money; 2 grandsons, Matthew Poe and Joseph Poe; 3 great-granddaughters, Emma Smith, Brianna Stokes, and Keira Stokes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
  E.C. is preceded in death by daughter Pamela Money; grandson, Miachel Money; parents, H.R. and Mary Collins; brothers, O.P. "Son" Collins, Leslie "Turk" Collins, Marvin "Bullet" Collins; sisters, Connie Tidwell, Irene "Suggie" Howell, Maudie May Hargrove, and Ruby "Teapot" Fletcher.
  The family is grateful for the excellent loving care E.C. received from Dr. William McSmith and Memory Lane Assisted Living Center in Haskell.

  Haskell - Jimmie Lou Free Adkins, 85, of Haskell, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, at her home.   Jimmie was born April 28, 1927, in Haskell to Jim and Eula Mae Free. On September 5, 1948, she married Royce Adkins in Haskell, Texas. Jimmie was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Royce, and three sisters, Allene Wheatley, Mary Jo Roberts, and Ruth Davis.
  Jimmie is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie and her husband, John Fouts of Haskell and Jill and her husband, Dr. Jim Hansard of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Lyle Fouts and his wife, Kelly of San Antonio, Texas, Dan Fouts and his wife Kristin of Lubbock, Texas, Tom Fouts of Lubbock, Texas, Hailey Hansard of Los Angeles, California, and Ryan Hansard of Austin, Texas; two great grandchildren, Gage and Lexy Fouts of San Antonio; and two sisters, Connie Bell Liles of Haskell and Nancy Henshaw of Fort Worth, Texas.

Margaret Veoma Kinney Dalton (1934-2012)


  Margaret Veoma Dalton, 77, resident of Rule, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Haskell with Rev. Dave Harrison officiating.   Margaret Veoma Kinney was born October 2, 1934, in Rochester to Daniel and Myrtle (Lewelling) Kinney. She married H.L. (Dusty) Dalton in Odessa on April 7, 1962.
  Mrs. Dalton is preceded in death by her husband, Dusty Dalton; parents, Daniel and Myrtle Kinney; 1 brother, Elvin Kinney; 2 nieces, Darlene Carter and Glorafay Patterson; and 2 nephews, Leslie Dan Kinney and Terry Carter.

Neita Galbreath Baccus (1931-2012)

  Neita Galbreath Baccus was born January 7, 1931, in Haskell, Texas. She grew up on a farm and was a farm girl through and through. She married Coy B. Baccus on July 13, 1953, and left her small town roots and moved to the oil fields of Louisiana. Neita was a pioneer in her day by becoming a career woman. She loved working in the banking and legal fields, and was a dedicated and valued employee. She kept her farm in Haskell and enjoyed visiting there from time to time. She and Coy traveled the world and she loved living in the Middle East, South America, and Europe. After retirement, Neita and Coy settled down in the Silver Creek Community of Lake Buchanan. She loved her lake and the peace it brought to her. Out of all the places she traveled and lived, she loved living at the lake the most. Neita Galbreath Baccus (1931-2012)
  Neita and Coy had one son, Ric L. Baccus and she had two stepchildren, Sandra Wake and Randy Baccus. She has 5 grandchildren, Neal Cox, Jacob Baccus, David Baccus, Matthew Cox, and Benjamin Baccus.
  Neita went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 25, 2012. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and loyal friend.
  She is preceded in death by her husband, Coy B. Baccus. She is survived by her son, Ric L. Baccus and wife Stacy of Midland; step-daughter, Sandra Wake and her husband Byron of Houston; step-son, Randy Baccus and wife Mary of Conroe; grandson Neal Cox and wife Dana of Houston; grandson Jacob Baccus and wife Kali of Midland; grandson David Baccus of Midland; Grandson Matthew Cox of Midland; and grandson Benjamin Baccus of Midland.
  The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Hospice of Midland, who devoted love, care, and attention during her final days. No services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley- Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.

Hal Kaye Bailiff (1937-2012)


  Hal Kaye Bailiff, 74, of Stamford, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his residence. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, in Willow Cemetery, Haskell, Texas under the direction of Kinney- Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford. The family will receive visitors from 6-7 p.m. Thursday evening, July 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Hal Kaye Bailiff (1937-2012)
  Hal Kaye Bailiff was born August 15, 1937, in Sagerton, Texas, the son of Howard Knight and Rena Belle Bailiff. He graduated from Rule High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Thelma Fay Thames on December 31, 1962 in Stamford. Hal made his home in Stamford and worked various jobs, most commonly known for painting. He attended Trinity Baptist Church and participated for many years at St. John's United Methodist Church's Annual Christmas Dinner by working in the kitchen and delivering meals.
  Hal was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry Dean Bailiff, Glen Bailiff; sisters, Janice Burleson and Nola Jean Lynn.
  Surviving Hal is a daughter and son in law, CW3 (R) Debra Cantwell and LTC John Cantwell of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Brandon Bass of California, Gary Bass of Colorado, Kelli Halm of Arizona, Anna Cantwell of San Antonio; four brothers, Bob Bailiff of Stamford, James Bailiff of Brownwood, Rolin Bailiff of Wichita Falls, Allen Bailiff of Pennsylvania; one sister, Joyce Helen Lovelady of Mineral Wells; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a close friend, Mabel Daffern of Stamford.

Wallace Hughey Cox, Jr. (1928-2012)

  Abilene - Wallace Hughey Cox, Jr. died in Abilene, Texas after a brief illness on July 11, 2012. A service to celebrate his life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Haskell at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 with Rev. Dustin Wilhite officiating. Visitation and viewing will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 10th at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Haskell. Wallace Hughey Cox, Jr. (1928-2012)
  The son of Wallace Hughey Cox, Sr. and Ruth Chambers Cox, Wallace was born July 29, 1928, in Haskell, Texas. Wallace graduated from Haskell High School in 1945 and Texas A&M University in 1949. Wallace served in the United States Army and was Aide De Camp for two Major Generals at Fort Sill, OK - Major General Harper and Major General Hart. In 1954, Wallace returned to Haskell to work in the family business, Jones Cox & Co. He married Joan (Jo) Copenhaver on February 22, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas. Wallace was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Haskell where he served in many leadership capacities and taught Sunday school. Wallace will be remembered as a humble, Godly man and a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend.
  Survivors include; three sons: John and wife Sally of Washington, D.C., Elliott and wife Carrie of Snyder, Paul and wife Dawn of Greenwood, IN; two daughters, Sarah Snailum of Fort Worth, Emily Cox of San Antonio; eight grandchildren, Kate Cox of Washington, D.C., Courtney, Alison and Hunter Cox of Snyder; Samuel, Benjamin, Caroline and Joseph Cox of Greenwood, IN and one great-grandchild: Hunter Beck Boyd.
  Wallace was preceded in death by his mother and father and his wife Jo.

  Haskell - Joy Marie (Cobb) Chapman, 92, passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2012, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and The Lydia Sunday School class. Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Haskell with Dr. Troy Culpepper and Rev. Jim McCurley officiating. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is Tuesday evening, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.   Joy Marie Cobb was born in Haskell County on December 31, 1919, to Truett C. and Myrtle Wheatley Cobb. She attended Roberts School and then graduated from Haskell High School in 1936. Joy married Jack Chapman at Roberts Baptist Church on April 16, 1942. Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker and integral part of the family farm and ranch operation. She was ambitious and worked a variety of jobs including working at an aircraft factory during her one year stint in California. Though she had many talents, she found her niche in the ladies retail shoe business. Joy was most known for being the owner of the Slipper Shoppe in Haskell and for being supportive of family and community activities. She rarely missed an athletic, academic or community event.
  Mrs. Chapman is preceded in death by her parents, Truett and Myrtle Cobb; her husband, Jack Chapman; 2 sisters, Evelyn Peebles and Fern Bassing; and her brother, Virgil Cobb.
  She is survived by her 3 sons, Ronnie Chapman and wife Linda of Haskell, Keith Chapman of Georgetown, Texas, Terry Chapman and wife Ruth of Norman, Oklahoma; 1 daughter, Glenda Gayle Rutkowski and husband John of Haskell; 7 grandchildren, Melissa Chapman Tatum and husband Christopher and Ronald Jack Chapman, Haylee and Caroline Chapman, Brittany, Weston and Ashton Rutkowski; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Garret, Taylor and Krislyn Tatum; 2 sisters, Ernestine Kelling of Moab, Utah, Wynell Ford and her husband J.L. of Malaga, Washington; brother, Toxie Cobb and wife Nancy of Farmington, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Evelyn Cobb of Haskell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends Elaine Glover and Tina Johnson.

Ida Lorene Goodman Boyd (1917-2012)

  Lorene Boyd, formerly of Rule, passed away Wednesday evening, May 16, 2012, in Aspermont, Texas. Mrs. Boyd was 95. Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Rule Cemetery in Rule with Mr. Darrell Edwards and Mr. John Greeson officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Friday evening, May 18 at the funeral home in Rule from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  Ida Lorene Goodman was born in Hill County, Texas on May 13, 1917, to Ollie Mae Baugus and J.B. Goodman. She married Travis Boyd on July 4, 1940, in Hillsboro, Texas. She loved the Lord and she and Travis lived in many places depending on where Travis' ministry led them. They eventually retired in Rule in 1989. Mrs. Boyd enjoyed quilting, and reading. She took much pleasure in canning the food grown from her husband's garden and was always available at the church in any way needed.
  She is preceded in death by her husband, Travis Boyd; a son, Allen Boyd; parents, J.B. and Ollie Goodman; 4 brothers, Boyd Goodman, Billy Goodman, Andrew Goodman, D.S. Goodman; and 1 sister, Bertis Colburn.
  Mrs. Boyd is survived by 2 sons, James Glenn Boyd and wife Betty of Henderson, NC, Travis Don Boyd and wife Norma of Louisberg, NC; 1 daughter, Linda Joy Trammell and husband Stanley of Aspermont; 5 grandchildren, Chad Trammell and wife Darla, Amber Barrientes and husband Juan, Katie Boyd, Bryan Boyd, Cassidy Tucker; 8 great-grandchildren, Desirae, Dorian, Cole, Abby, Weston, Kable, Connor, Brenna; 1 great-great grandchild, Grayson; and many nieces and nephews-in law.

Thomas "Rudy" Casey (1952-2012)

  Rule - Thomas "Rudy" Casey, 59, passed away Tuesday morning, May 1, 2012, at his home in Rule.   Rudy was born May 9, 1952, in Haskell to Marjorilene Camper and Eugene Lamar Casey. He graduated from Rule ISD and attended McMurry University in Abilene. He married Julie Carruth in Munday June 3, 1972, and lived in Rule all his life. He worked as an oil field pumper and also operated a cafe in Haskell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rule.
  He is preceded in death by his father, Lamar Casey; and father-in-law, Ira Lee Carruth.
  Rudy is survived by his wife Julie; two sons, Tommy Casey and Mike Casey and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Katelyn and Jacob Casey; his mother, Margie Casey; brother, Gary Casey; sister, Sonja Parr and husband David; mother-in- law, Betty Sue Carruth; sisters-in-law, Beth Arnold and husband Paul, Diana Graham and husband Elden, and Teri Lee Carruth; and numerous aunts, cousins, and nephews.

  Donna Jane Josselet was born December 29, 1947, in Ft. Worth to Herman and Mary (Taylor) Josselet. She married Jimmy Bynum in Haskell on June 1, 1996. Donna was a warrant secretary at Taylor County Sheriff's Department and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary Josselet.
  Donna is survived by her husband Jimmy of Haskell; three daughters, Kimberly Hunter of Anchorage, AK, Ashley Bynum of Austin, and Michelle Bynum also of Austin; her son, Chad Watson of Anchorage, AK; two brothers, Johnny Josselet and Phillip Josselet both of Haskell; one granddaughter; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thoma LaRue Beauchamp DeBusk (1928-2012)

  Dallas - LaRue Beauchamp DeBusk, 83, entered her enternal life with our Lord, Jesus Christ on February 23, 2012. LaRue was born to William and Hallie Hardy on March 6, 1928 in Avoca, TX. She lived a joyful life for 80 plus years in the small country towns of central west Texas. Thoma LaRue Hardy Beauchamp DeBusk (1928-2012)
  LaRue married Bob Beauchamp on June 6, 1948. Throughout their years of marriage she dedicated her life to her husband, daughter, church, and chosen vocation as a dental assistant where for over two decades she delighted in telling Dr. Bill Kemp how to run his practice. She enjoyed the fellowship and teachings of her Baptist Sunday School classes in Haskell and Anson, and her morning devotionals were a part of her daily life until she couldn't remember where she put her Bible! LaRue, "MiMi", discovered what little boys were made of as she relished in the joys of her four grandsons.
  On May 9, 1987 a new season of LaRue's life began with the marriage to Billy Hugh DeBusk of Anson, TX. LaRue experienced new adventures as the wife of a man who loved and lived his life off the land - in west Texas terms, a farmer. As LaRue progressed through the stages of Alzheimer's, Bill remained steadfast and committed in the loving care of her daily life.
  LaRue was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Howard Beauchamp, her two brothers and a stepson Billy Dwight DeBusk. She is survived by her only child Jackie Beauchamp Tomlinson, her husband Buddy; four grandsons, Brady and wife Lauren, Blake, Brice and Bowie; sister, Lou Etta Cox; brother, Bobby Hardy; stepdaughter, Cindy DeBusk and step grandchildren, Travis Jones, David DeBusk, Emily Knolls, Gina Dicus, Ashley DeBusk.
  A memorial service will be held in Dallas, TX at Dallas Bible Church, 15765 Hillcrest Road, on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 3:00 pm. Graveside services will be held in Haskell, TX at the Willow Cemetery on Monday, February 27th at 2:00 pm. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Churches of Haskell or Anson, TX.

  Haskell - John Royce Briggs, 81, passed away at his residence in Haskell, Texas on Friday, February 17, 2012. Services will be held at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in Ada, OK. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, also in Ada. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes in Haskell, Texas.
  John Royce was born June 14, 1930, in Ada, OK to Edgar Auod and Violet Charity (Parker) Briggs. John grew up and lived in Ada until moving to Haskell 34 years ago. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coalgate, OK.
  He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Violet Briggs; and his first wife, Wanda Sue (Sharum) Briggs.
  John is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Rodriguez) Briggs of Haskell; 3 sons, Dan Royce Briggs of Wichita Falls, TX, Michael Timothy Briggs of Pawhuska, OK, and Robert Dale Briggs of Burbank, OK; one daughter, Janis Louise Briggs of Weinert, TX; 11 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; 2 brothers, Phillip Duane Briggs of Ada, OK, and Trent Parker Briggs also of Ada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, February 19, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule.
  Patsy Lou Norman was born April 10, 1928, in Rule to Claude Frank and Ola Mae (Wilson) Norman. She married Jack G. Davis in Anson, TX on December 24, 1944. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
  She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ola Norman; her husband, Jack Davis; and a sister, Martha Norman.
  Patsy is survived by her 2 sons, Glenn Davis of Rule, and Tommy Davis and his wife Beverly of Rule; a daughter, Delle Watkins of Ft. Worth; one grandson, Eric Watkins and wife Raquel of Ft.   Mrs. Ash was a retired office manager for Dr. Charles Oswalt, III.

  Born May 1, 1940, in Haskell, Douglas was a son of the late Hollis Randall and Loudell Joy (Trice) Davis. He graduated from Rule High School and played football for Ranger Junior College before going to North Texas State and receiving his degree in accounting. He enjoyed reading, playing solitaire on the computer, watching football and working crossword puzzles.
  Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Leigh Ann Davis of Lubbock; one daughter and son-in- law, Jennifer and Jerry Slaven of San Angelo; one brother and sister-in-law, Derrel and Pam Davis of Hamlin; three grandchildren, Hannah Davis, Hunter Davis, and Jacob Slaven; one nephew, Tyler Davis; and numerous cousins.

  Annie May Carroll was born November 18, 1925 in Dickens, Texas to Jean and Lilli (Biggs) Carroll. She married William Butler in Dickens on February 5, 1944. They lived in Lubbock and Crosbyton prior to moving to Haskell where Annie has resided for the past 50 years. She was a housekeeper for Haskell Memorial Hospital for 15 years.
  She is preceded in death by her husband William Butler; her parents, Jean and Lillie Carroll; 2 sons, Gene Butler and Gwynn Butler; her grandson, Jimmy Joe Butler; and one brother, Cecil Carroll.

  Abilene - Coy Angley, 77, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, at his residence.   Coy was born July 29, 1934, to Mamie (Long) and Christopher Columbus Angley in Haskell, Texas. He married Glenda Riddle on January 21, 1955 in Haskell, Texas.
  Coy worked in the Pipe Field for Fort Worth Pipe and Supply until his retirement in 1997. He was employed by Smith Pipe as a long-life tester in Abilene and worked for the City of Abilene as a Driver of Trash Collection.
  Coy enjoyed fishing and camping out in Paint Rock, Texas; telling jokes; and watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He loved his family very much. Coy enjoyed driving the Sunday School Bus for Trinity Baptist Church. Everyone called him "Cotton". Coy was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all.
  Coy was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Roy Angley; brothers, Floyd Angley, Jack Angley, Bill Angley, and Holbert Angley; and sisters, Nettie Tonche and Bennie Kingery.
  Survivors include his wife, Glenda Angley of Abilene; son, Coy Angley, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas; Linda Sumrall and husband, Gene, of Denison, Texas, Shirley Loven of Sweetwater, Texas, and Becky Yarbough and husband, Elvey, of Abilene; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

  Mrs. Bishop was born December 17, 1923, in Sipe Springs, Texas to Robert and Ida (Skaggs) Love. She married Buddy Bishop in Haskell on August 18, 1946. Gracie lived 66 years in Rule and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
  She is preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Bishop; a daughter, Tammy Bishop; her parents, Robert and Ida Love; three brothers; and three sisters.
  Gracie is survived by her two sons, Tony and Virginia Bishop of Lufkin, Texas and Bob Bishop and Darla Moore of Rule, Texas; two grandsons, Chad Bishop of Starksville, Mississippi and Mason Bishop of Lubbock, Texas; two granddaughters, Chase Daughtery of Fort Worth, Texas and Janae Faulkner and her husband Kyle of Abilene; 4 great- grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Holmes of Rule; numerous nieces and nephews; and adopted son and daughter, Juan and Yolanda Herrera of Rule.

  Haskell - Services to celebrate the life of Nadra V. Baros, 79, will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 1 p.m. in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. After a courageous three-year battle with cancer, Nadra passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, at her home in Haskell, Texas. She was born in Ennis, Texas, to Jack and Addie Sain on Oct. 6, 1932.
  Nadra was the beloved wife of Marvin J. Baros, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage on March 28, 2011. Nadra was a housewife and loving mother for many years, then with her husband owned and operated ABC Nursery School in Lubbock for 11 years before retiring. She dedicated her life to her family and any children in need. Nadra loved traveling and spending time with her family.
  She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and one sister.
  Survivors include her husband; daughter, Belinda Waters and her husband Jim of Ransom Canyon; three sons, Jerry of Stamford, Kevin of Greeley, Colo., and Kent of Anson; daughter, Kim of Anson; and grandchildren, Linzy, Mycki, Matthew and Tara. She is also survived by many loving sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
  Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Joe Arrington Cancer Center. The family will receive friends at Resthaven today from 3 to 5 p.m.

  Bertie was born November 1, 1909 in Bridgeport, Texas to Robert Edgar and Elmira Myra (Eaton) McNiel. She married P.G. Beauchamp in Anson, Texas on March 28, 1926 and has lived in Haskell County 101 years. Bertie was a member of Primitive Baptist Church of Rule since June of 1926. She was a devoted housewife and mother.
  Bertie is survived by her two sons, Jim Beauchamp and wife Junita of Rochester and Larry Beauchamp and wife Frankie of Lawn, Texas; two daughters, Ada Pope of Haskell and Joyce Hester of Rule; 13 grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elmira McNiel; her husband P. G. Beauchamp, Sr.; son, P. G. Beauchamp, Jr.; grandson, Rocky Boggs; nine brothers; three sisters; and two son-in-laws, Sydney Hester and John Pope.

Esther Lavert Fowler Bushell (1919-2011)

  Esther Lavert Fowler Bushell, 92, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2011, in Houston, Texas.
  Esther, one of twelve children, was born March 28, 1919, in Haskell, Texas, to Edna and Elbert Fowler. Esther married William Albert Bushell on April 13, 1946, and they moved to Abilene, Texas, where they raised their family. Later in life Esther became an LVN and worked at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Texas. In 1981 she moved to Pflugerville, Texas, where she was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville. Esther Lavert Fowler Bushell (1919-2011)
  Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, and four brothers and six sisters.
  Survivors include a son, Bill Bushell and wife, Linda, of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Carol Gaither of Manassas, Virginia; two grandchildren, David Bushell and wife, Rainell, of League City, Texas, Amanda Pullen and husband, Sean, of Abilene, Texas; four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Joan Cartwright of Abilene, Texas.
  The Bushell family would like to thank Regency Village for their excellent care during the four years Esther resided there and Hospice Compassus for the loving care in her final months.
  Visitation will be October 21, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Virgil C Cobb (1924-2011)

  Virgil C. Cobb, 87, passed away in Haskell, Texas, Wednesday September 14, 2011 at Haskell Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with lung cancer. Services will be held at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Haskell with Pastor Morris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Haskell. A visitation is schedule for Friday evening, September 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home.
  Virgil was born September 11, 1924, in Haskell County to Truett and Myrtle (Wheatley) Cobb. He grew up in Haskell County and graduated from Mattson High School in 1942. In March 1943, Virgil enlisted in the United States Navy where he served overseas in Guadalcanal, Bougainville, New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was discharged March 9, 1946, at Camp Wallace Texas.
  On July 30, 1950, he married Evelyn (Linville) Cobb. To this union two sons were born, Gary C. Cobb and Robert L. Cobb. During his long lifetime, Virgil worked for West Texas Utilities at the Paint Creek Power Station where he retired in 1987 while holding the position of Assistant Superintendent. He was also a charter member and past president of the Haskell Jaycees, Haskell Booster Club, and the American Legion. Virgil was also very active in the Little League baseball program during his sons' early years. He is a member of Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship Church where, before his illness, he loved to serve as greeter.
  Virgil is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his two sons, Gary Cobb and wife Susan of Lubbock, Dr. Robert Cobb and wife Shauna of Midland; four grandchildren, Blake Cobb of Dallas, Sawyer and Crosby Cobb of Midland, and Tanner Weil of Atlanta, Ga. Also surviving are Virgil's sisters, Joy Chapman of Haskell, Ernestine Kelling of Moab, Utah, Wynell Ford and husband John of Malaga, Wash., and brother, Toxie Cobb and wife Nancy of Farmington, N.M.
  He is preceded in death by his parents, Truett and Myrtle Cobb; sisters, Evelyn Peebles and Fern Bassing; brothers-in-law, Jack Chapman, Charles Kelling and Walter Peebles.
  Donations can be made in Virgil's name to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Big Country, or Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship.

  Jerre was born February 18, 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Hesser Arthur Bayless and Lydia Euphame Pruitt. She was retired from the Stamford Wal-Mart and had lived in Arlington, TX for 33 years prior to moving back to Haskell in 2003. Jerre was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
  Jerre is survived by one son, Thomas Harlan of Arlington, TX; one daughter, Jo Ellen Harlan of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Jo Ann Grant of Haskell; seven grandchildren, Zachary Harlan, Austin Sumrall, J.D. Harlan, Houston Sumrall, Lydia Sumrall, Faith Harlan, Robert Carter Harlan; one great grandson, Christopher; and her special relationship with Gay Harlan. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
  She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jamie Harlan, both set of grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

  Lindon was born August 23, 1925, in Weinert, Texas, to Collie Dozier Caddell, Sr. and Learo May Capers. He married Nathelee Wallace February 9, 1947, in Haskell, Texas, and served in the US Navy during WWII. He lived in California and Pampa, Texas before settling in Haskell. Lindon was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell.
  He is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Jean Caddell of Rule, Texas and Kathy Lee Slayton and husband Rev. Robert Slayton of Belleview, Texas; 1 grandson, John Kyle Slayton; 6 grandaughters, Melissa Sue Rihel and husband Ken, Emily Ann Malaer and husband Dalton, Stephanie Lynn Cockshutt, Tina Renay Conner, Janice Michelle Caddell, and Lisa Maria Espinoza; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

  Melvin was born November 16, 1958, to George Brueggeman and Dora Mae Moeller. He lived most of his live in Weinert and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Melvin was a certified nurses assistant and worked full time at both Haskell Memorial Hospital and Knox County Hospital as well as part time at Stamford Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed crocheting.
  Melvin is survived by his mother, Dora Brueggeman; one sister, Johnnie McCrory and husband Pat; two brothers, John and Larry Brueggeman; five nephews, Joe, Josh, Pat, and Sean McCrory and Will Brueggeman; two great-nieces, Raela McCrory and Madeline McCrory; three aunts, Erna Brueggeman, Zella Mae Moeller, and Bertha Haley; numerous cousins; and his very best friend, James Robins.

  Alene was born September 7, 1933, in Haskell, Texas to Will Weise and Lena Steinfath. She married Walter Bredthauer in Haskell April 24, 1952, and was a lifelong resident of Haskell. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and she worked as a caregiver and served as church council.
  Alene is survived by her husband, Walter Bredthauer; one daughter, Walene Bredthauer of Haskell, Texas; two sons, Brian Bredthauer and wife Deborah of Angel Fire, New Mexico, and Bennie Bredthauer and wife Vickie of Haskell, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin Hannsz, Clay Bredthauer, Kyle Compton, Ross Compton and Koby Compton; one brother, Leonard Weise of Haskell, Texas; a sister-in-law, Betty Weise of Haskell, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
  She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillian Smith and Lydia Moeller; two brothers, Wilton and Curtis Weise; and two nephews, Dwain Weise and Allen Dale Smith. Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society, Red Cross or Trinity Lutheran Church.

  Haskell - Christina Wells Bruton, 90, passed away in Haskell, Texas, August 8, 2011. Services will be held at the Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, in Haskell with Mr. Phillip Sims officiating. Burial will be at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Christina Wells Bruton (1921-2011)
  Christina was born January 4, 1921, in Haskell County to William Fletcher Wells and Ola Windsor. She married Robert O. Bruton in Stamford, Texas on July 12, 1941, and has lived in Haskell all her life. Christina was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
  She is survived by her daughter, Betty Bruton of Haskell, Texas; brother Wayne Wells of Paint Creek, Texas; 8 nieces and 7 nephews.
  Christina is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert O. Bruton; 3 brothers, Windsor Wells, Layne Wells, and Gene Wells; and a sister Oleta Wells Bailey. Memorials can be made to Texas Rehabilitation, Heart Fund, or Diabetes Foundation.

Tommy Glenn Baker (1940-2011)

  Rotan - Tommy Glenn Baker, 70, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in Abilene. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, in the Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.
  Born December 26, 1940, in Stamford, Tommy was a son of the late Jack Nolan and Ruby Estelle (McGrary) Baker. He married LuDana Rains June 3, 1972, in Rotan. Tommy was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Lone Star Transportation as a driver and was a former Dr. Pepper salesman. He moved to Rotan in 1982 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rotan. Tommy enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.
  Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and wife (LuDana Rains Baker).
  Survivors include three sons, Sammy Baker (and wife, Patti) of Merkel, Emery Baker of Knox City, and Raymond Baker of Abilene; one daughter, Thelma Baker, Stamford; two brothers, Robert Baker of Haskell, and Sammy Baker of Stanton; and seven grandchildren

Ray Acosta

  God called Ray Acosta home on Tuesday October 26, 2010, at 2:30 pm at the age of 81. He always thanked God and gave Him praise, even while in the hospital in severe pain with liver cancer. A Funeral Mass will be 11:00am, Saturday, October 30, 2010, at St. George Catholic Church, Haskell. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home, Haskell. A Rosary will be held 6:00pm, Friday evening at the church. Ray Acosta
  Ray was born in Texarkana TX, the son of the late Juan and Juanita Acosta, but lived his life in Haskell from the age of 2. On December 7, 1949, he married the love of his life, Alicia Rosales. He became a farmer before the age of 10 and farmed until 2010 when he started liver cancer treatments.
  Even when he was not driving the tractor, he was at the farm working on the equipment getting it ready. He also worked at the Farmers Coop Gin for 30 years. He became the head ginner for several years before finally retiring from the gin. All the time he worked at the cotton gin, he farmed because he enjoyed it so much. Thurman Bynum hired him to work the fields and when Thurman retired and passed, he was allowed to keep farming the land. Ray also was a member of St. George Catholic Church, where he was very involved and held multiple leadership positions throughout his life. God played a major part of his life and raised his children in the way of the Lord.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chris Acosta, Albert Acosta, Antonio Acosta, sisters Maria Acosta and Rosita Acosta.
  His survivors include his wife of 61 years Alicia Acosta, 7 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. His children include his son Ray Acosta Jr. from Tampa FL and his children Pam from Plano, Stephen from Tampa, Ashley from Tampa; daughter Yolanda Casillas and husband Edmund from Knox City and their children Ed from San Jose CA, Paul from Wichita Falls, Laurie from Austin and her daughters Destiny and Addison; son Enrique Acosta and wife Carol from Willmar MN and their son Gabriel; son Julio Acosta; son Robert Acosta and his children Brandon from Austin, Chris Acosta & his wife Jenny from Denton and their son Brayden, daughter Morgan Acosta from Abilene and her son Hudsyn; daughter Alice Fuentes and husband Roger from San Antonio; daughter Elaine Bradford from Sunnyvale CA and her daughter Brooke, brothers Raymond Acosta and Freddie Acosta of Austin, sisters Lita Lugo of Austin, Eva Martinez of Pflugerville, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends.
  The family wishes to thank the many who have been in prayer throughout his illness and for the prayers for his family. Thanks also for the many who have brought food and stopped by to pay their condolences.
