Charles Henry JONES
Mar 1997
Charles Henry JONES, wife Mae Gilmer JONES homesteaded in the Ft. Hancock or El Paso area in about 1910 to 1917. Mae Gilmer Jones died Dec. 17, 1917. It is possible her death was at Ft. Hancock, but I don't know. Are there places to write or research in that area that could give me any information? Would like to know if there are cemeteries at Ft. Hancock.

Mrs. Waymon LIVELY
Mar 1997
Trying to research the current validity of a deed for a small plot of land in Finlay, Texas. The deed is from B. F. BRITTON (Tarrant County) To Mrs. Waymon LIVELY. It was recorded by the County Clerk, Hudspeth County, Texas on the 30th day of June, 1926 in the Deed Records, volume 14, pages 51 and 52. This query is being made for my uncle, Carl LIVELY. Is this still a valid deed or has the property been sold, transferred, or otherwise disposed of since? Thank you.

Otis Hemmingway
Unknown date
My name is Les Walton and I was born in Finley, Hudspeth Co. I started to school in Fort Hancock in 1942. My father, John Leslie Walton died in Fort Hancock in the fall of 1935 and I was raised by my maternal grandparents, Horace and Audrey Suggs who operated the old clay mill at Finley until about 1950. My paternal grandparents were Mae and John Walton. John Walton was the pumper for the Southern Pacific railroad and operated the water system in Fort Hancock until his retirement about 1957. I have a picture in my possession of a championship basketball team that is probably the class in 1933. In that picture is a one armed young man who played on that team and I believe his name to be Otis Hemmingway. Do you have any information as to who Mr. Hemmingway was or does he have any living relatives? Any information on any of the old families of Fort Hancock or Finley would be appreciated. Lewie and Eva McNiel

My name is Neil Ard. I was born in Van Horn at Culberson County Hospital in 1972, and my grandparents, at one point, lived near Allamoore by the Southern Clay rock crusher. I live in California, and it is unlikely that my travels will take me to Hudspeth and Culberson counties soon - and I wondered if someone may have photos of the area around the rock crusher. Specifically, I am in search of a picture of my grandparent's home, their names were Lewie and Eva McNiel.
It has been many years ago, and I don't know if the house still stands, or if one is even able to access that part of the country. Obviously, I do not have a physical address - though I know there were not many homes in the area. They lived near another building that was vacant and one time used as an office. Outside, a large green letter "T" was on a signpost. We called my grandparent's home "The Green T".
I know this is a seemingly odd request, but as I approach my 35th birthday, I often think of my summers spent at the Green T, and would love to know what it looked like now, etc. Let me know if you have any thoughts on how I might obtain some photos of the area.
Thanks in advance for your time in reading this email. Best regards, Neil Ard (Grandparents: Lewie and Eva McNiel)
