Welcome
Jeff Davis County is in far west Texas and is one of the least populated counties with only about 2000 people reported in 2020. The county seat is Fort Davis, the highest town in Texas, with an elevation of 5050 ft. Jeff Davis is unique in its shape, almost a horizontal diamond except for a six mile east-west stretch in the south that makes it a pentagon. The county was created in 1887 with Ft Davis as the county seat. Traditionally, the citizens of Jeff Davis County have been ranchers and the people who supplied those ranchers. Prior to 1887, records for this area will be in Presidio County.Jeff Davis is home to the MacDonald Observatory and the "most isolated" peak in Texas, Baldy Peak on Mt Livermore. In addition we have the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens, Davis Mountains State Park, Davis Mountains Preserve and the Fort Davis National Historic Site.
