Welcome

Kinney County is located in south Texas and borders Mexico for a brief moment on the Rio Grande. It was created from Bexar County in 1850 but wasn't organized until 1874 and Bracketville became its county seat in 1876. It's sparsely populated with only about 3200 folks and the most folks it ever reported was for the 1940 census with 4,533 people and a boost from Fort Clark, which closed in 1946. The Alamo Village was constructed here for the 1960's film The Alamo and the village was subsequently used for many more western movies and documentaries.

Brackettville and Spofford are the only communites of any size and the only year-round reliable water sources are the Rio Grande and both branches of the Nueces River.
