Funeral services for retired Air Force Col. Donald P. Hall, who served as deputy commander of the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, from 1961 to 1965, are set for 10 a.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist Church, Lancaster. He died in Lancaster July 6. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Joshua Memorial Park. Col. Hall, who was 65, lived at 44058 27th Street W., Lancaster. He died July 6 at Antelope Valley Medical Center, Lancaster. The colonel was born in Kingsville, Tex., May 3, 1913, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in 1937. He was a graduate of Texas A&M. He flew 189 missions in the South Pacific during World War II, downing nine enemy aircraft and sinking 11 enemy ships of various sizes, including a destroyer. Col. Hall also served in Korea as commander of the 4th Fighter Wing. He retired from the Air Force at EAFB July 1, 1965. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cockerhamm Hall, whom he married in 1947; sons Lawrence, Squaw Valley, and Gerald, Northridge; and a daughter, Cynthia Lueben, of Costa Mesa. Also surviving are a brother, Leonard, New Port Beach; and sisters Mildred Shelton, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Athleen Hall, Kingsville, Texas. Col Hall was a resident of the Antelope Valley since 1963. Locally, he was a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and the First Baptist Church. Handling arrangements is Murphy Mortuary, Lancaster.

KINGSVILLE - Funeral services for Joseph B. Hardy,76, who died Saturday morning in a Kingsville hospital, were held Sunday afternoon at Cage-Piper Funeral Chapel. The Rev. H.E. East, pastor of First Baptist Church of Kingsville, and the Rev. Ernest Kelley, of Alice, officiated. Burial was in Kingsville Cemetery.
Hardy, a retired section foreman, had been a railroad employee for 44 years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Joe B., of New Orleans, Robert of Portland, Ore., and Roy of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. E. J. Humphrey of Port Lavaca, Mrs. M.A. Guisaki of Houston, and Mrs. T. A. Lowery of Calico Rock, Ark.; two stepsons, Lewis and W. A. Myers of Kingsville; one step daughter, Mrs. F. G. Roper of Kingsville; a brother and six sisters.
Mrs. Ella Hardy Dies in Hospital On Tuesday Night
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Hardy, 80, were to be held this (Wednesday) afternoon at the Cage-Piper chapel with interment following in the Chamberlain Burial Park.
Mrs. Hardy died late Tuesday night in the Kleberg County Hospital. She lived here for 15 years, coming here from Houston.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Bob Clements and arrangements were handled by Cage-Piper Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, W. A. Meyers of Corpus Christi, a daughter, Mrs. F. G. Roper, of Kingsville, a brother, J. B. Shanks of Houston, 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. (Kingsville Record - 1958)
CAPT. WILLIAM J. AMANN, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max W. Amann Sr. of 837 Waverly Ave., and Poteet, has been reported killed in action in Belgium Jan. 1, his parents and his widow, Mrs. Mardell Amann, of Kingsville, have been notified. Amann, who was listed as missing in action Dec. 24, was a graduate of the Poteet High School and studied engineering at A. & I. College, Kingsville. A member of the National Guard, he entered active service in November, 1940, and had been overseas with a field artillery unit since February, 1944. Surviving Amann, besides his parents and widow, are two children and two brothers, Max W. Amann Jr. of Utopia, and Willard Lee Amann, a student at A. & I. College. L. J. Myers, 54 Dies Suddenly Saturday
Lewis John Myers, long-time staff member of the Missouri Pacific auditor's office here, died at the Kleberg County
Hospital about 5 p.m. Saturday, after being rushed there for treatment for a heart attack. He was at his home, 821 West
Kleberg, when he was stricken.
He was born in Thompson, Texas, March 11, 1899, and came to Kingsville from Cuero in 1916 to accept a position with
the railroad as a statistician. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Roy Johnson from the First Baptist church at 5 p.m. Monday. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under directions of Cage-Piper Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, his mother, Mrs. Ella Hardy; two sons, Lewis an Charles Myers, all of Kingsville; a daughter,

Mrs. J. A. King of Kingsville is Dead at 57 (Caller-Times News Service)
KINGSVILLE - Mrs. Annie Lou King, 57, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday at her home here from a heart attack. She was office manager and assistant treasurer for the Missouri Pacific Credit Union in Kingsville.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Orlie Oates of Corpus Christi.
Mrs. King was a lifelong resident of Kingsville. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. S. Huffman.
He was the first doctor in Kingsville.
Other survivors are her husband; another daughter, Mrs. Travis H. McClain of Kingsville, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Don Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Chamberlain Cemetery.

W.T. Spier, 88, died here about 5 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Whitley at 208 East Johnson.

A requiem mass was celebrated this (Wednesday) morning at st. Gertrude's Catholic church for Mrs. Sarah Hettie
Spier, 77, who died early Tuesday in the Kleberg County hospital. Father George Baumgartner celebrated the mass.
Rosary was said Tuesday night at the Cage-Piper chape. Mrs. Spier, who came here in 1920, was a retired housewife
and had been ill for several months.
Survivors include tow brotheres, Walter Mancus of Tecumcari, New Mexico and Joheph G. Mancus of Harlington,
and two sisters, Mrs. Mary F. Boren of Portales, New Mexico, and Mrs. J.T. Whitley of Kingsville

Mrs. J. H. Black Dies Monday; Burial Here
Mrs. J.H.Black, 73, died Monday in the Kleberg Couty hospital.
She had been ill for about a week and was taken to the hospital from her home at 330 E. Johnson.
She moved to Kingsville in 1916 from Teague. Her husband is a conductor on the Missouri-Pacific Railroad.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four brothers. W. P., R.L and C.M. Slocum all of Dallas, and J. H. Slocum of Terrell; and one sister Mrs. Effie Hill of Dallas.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Churchof Christ with Granville Jones and W.S. Wiley officiating.
Burial was in Chamberlain Cemetery under the direction of Cage-Piper Funeral home

Black, a native of Winchester, Texas, died Thursday in a Corpus Christi rest home after a long illness. He moved
to Kingsvillein 1916. Black was employed as a conductor by the Missori-Pacific Railroad Companyfor 55 years,
retiring from that position in 1960.
Surviving him are one brother Kenzie Black of Hillsboro and two sisters, Mrs Inez Messer of Fort Worth and

Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Young, 54, a long time resident of Kingsville
and daughter of J. C. Nolan, former mayor, were held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church with Rev. Henry Getz

Mrs. young died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at Kleberg County Hospital.
A native of Minnesota, she had lived here 35 years. Formerly, Mrs. Young had
Lived at Forth Worth and Ruston, La.
She was married to William H. (Bill) Young, a farmer and stockman of Kingsville, who died eight years ago.
Mrs. Young had served as housemother at A&I East Campus Dormitories until
Several months ago when Lantana Hall closed.
Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Nolan, of Kingsville; two daughters, Mrs. John Smith of

W. H. Young Dies of Heart Attack
Fatal Stroke Comes As Pioneer Citizen Is Engaged In Hunting Friday
W. H. Young, one of the settlers of the town of Kingsville, died suddenly last Friday morning of a
heart attack which occurred while Mr. Young was engaged in his favorite sport, deer hunting. Time of his death
was set at about 9:30.
Mr. Young had visited at a farmhouse southwest of Ricardo early that morning and there met two other
hunters. They separated to hunt, and after one of the other men, Clinton Craft of the Ricardo community had
killed his deer, he came upon Mr. Young’s lifeless body. Neither his rifle nor shotgun had been fired.
An inquest held by T.A. Simon, Jr. justice of the peace, resulted in a verdict of death from “coronary
acclusion.”
William Henry Young was born in Burlington, Iowa, September 8, 1887, and came to this city to
be among its founders in 1904, He was engaged in land sales and farming in the early days, and for many years had
lived on his farm just north of the city. On April 19, 1917, he was married to Miss Esther Nolan in this city.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal, with Rev. Francis Hamilton, the vicar officiating. Burial was in Chamberlain Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Bettye of the city and Billie who is employed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi; three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Heany, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Oliver Oswald, Chicago; Miss Mamie Young, New York City; two brothers Roy and Earl Young both of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Hardy Seay, 82, who died at her
residence here last Thursday noon after a brief illness, were held in Ardmore, Okla.
She moved here from Ardmore three years ago.
Mrs. Seay, who resided at 217 West Kenedy, was a member of the First
Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lon P. Johnson of Kingsville; and a sister, Mrs.
J. R. Goodloe of Midwest City, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Seguin while on a visit. He was 92 years of age and a retired farmer.

Manuel M. Galvan, 67, a retired machine helper for Missouri-Pacific Railroad

Mrs. M. S. Wood Funeral Held
Last Thursday
Mrs. Mary Foster Wood, a resident of Kingsville since
1910, died last Wednesday at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Born at Goliad 70 years ago, Mrs. Wood came to this city in
1910 when her husband, the late M. S. Wood, accepted a position as paymaster
of the old St. L. B. and M. Railroad. The family moved here from Fort
Worth. Mrs. Wood had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church
Since coming to the city.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at five o’clock in
Cage-Piper Funeral Chapel, with Dr. S. H. Riesner, president of the Presbyterian
Pan-American School, conducting. Burial in Chamberlain Cemetery was under
Direction of Cage-Piper.
Pallbearers were Don Smith, Bill Kell, Capen Simons, Temple
Miller, all of Kingsville, Dr. James Word of Robstown, and Arthur Marston of

G.E. Schadke, 70, a long time resident of Kingsville, died at
5:45 a.m. Friday in a local hospital.
Schkade had lived here since 1912, moving to Kingsville from
Lincoln, Texas. He was a retired boilermaker for the Missouri-Pacific
Railroad.

Jose Guadalupe Garcia, age 59, died Thursday at 6:21 a.m. in Kleberg
County Hospital after a short illness.
A Native of Falfurrias, he had lived here since 1920. He was an electrician for McCracken Electrical Service, Inc.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was in
the Service during World War II.
Rosary was recited Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. at Piper Chapel.
Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. L. Wilkinson, 91, who died at
1 p.m. Tuesday in Kleberg County Hospital after a long illness will
be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church followed by burial in
Chamberlain Cemetery under the direction of Piper Funeral Home.
A native of Tehuacana Hills, she had lived in Kingsville since 1925
and was the first president of Flato School PTA. She was a past president of the
Kingsville Woman’s Club and organized the Bluebonnet Drama Club and the
Kleberg County Federation of Women’s Club.
Mrs. Wilkinson also was a Sunday school teacher at the First
Baptist Church where she had been a member 48 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Claude West of Kingsville; two
granddaughters, Miss Cynthia Ann West of Dallas and Mrs. John Hall of
Wharton, and two great-granddaughters.

Elmer Clark,
Local Pioneer, Buried Tuesday
Elmer Clark, pioneer resident of Kingsville who came here
4 years after the town was founded, died in the Kleberg county hospital
after an illness of some duration. Funeral services were held Tuesday
afternoon at the Cage-Piper chapel, conducted by the Rev. William J.
Spreen, pastor of the First Christian church. Interment was in the Chamberlain
Burial Park with Masonic Burial ceremonies.
Clark arrived in Kingsville in 1908 from Swanton, Nebraska, and was
Chief clerk to the superintendent of the Kingsville division of the St. L. B. and
M. Railroad. Later he engaged in real estate development, being associated at
Various times with B. O. Sims and Charles H. Flato, Jr.
Later he bought the Kingsville Steam Laundry, operating it for about
20 years until he sold it during World War II. He then retired and had not been
active in business since that time.
He was a prominent Mason, a member of the Council and the Commandery.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Etta L. Scott of Melford, Delaware, and a
Sister-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Clark of Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family requested that no flowers be sent, but that those desiring to do

Mrs. Blevins Dies at Daughter’s Home
Mrs. Ada Abilene Blevins, age 64, died Monday,
August 12, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Nichols, on
Third Street.
Mrs. Blevins was born in De Leon, Texas, September 23, 1870.
For the past four years she had made her home with her daughter.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Clark of the
First Baptist Church from the Allen Funeral Chapel yesterday at 5 p.m.
Burial was in Chamberlain Cemetery.

Annie Dukes
Annie Dukes, 84, of Kingsville died Thursday in a local hospital.
She was born Jan. 26, 1906 in Bay City to the Rev. and Mrs. D. A. Jones.
She attended Bay City public schools, Prairie View A & M College, and
Quinn College and Texas State University, where she graduated with a bachelor of
Arts in education.
She and her husband, the late Gillis Dukes, were married in 1943.
She taught for three years in Falfurrias public schools and for 27 years in Alice schools.
Mrs. Dukes was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she had served as church
Secretary, Sunday school superintendent, a member of the Stewardess Board No.1, secretary of the Missionary Society, director of the Sunday Beam Choir and leader of
Class No. 1.
She was a member of Kingsville Chapter No. 325, Order of the Eastern Star, and the
Woman’s Retirement Club.

Luther Lawrence Thompson
Luther Lawrence Thompson, 88, of Kingsville died Friday
in a local hospital.
A Kingsville resident for 60 years, he retired in 1962 as a general foreman of Missouri
Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Grace Thompson of Kingsville; three daughters, Jo Lynn Thompson and Barbara Ann Richards both of Houston, and Armadell Wchmeyer of Pasadena; two sisters Mozelle Gaines of Palestine and Cilla Owens of Houston; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and on great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am. Monday at Turcotte Mortuary with the
Rev. Dan Wooldidge officiating. Burial will be in Chamberlain Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tom Benedict, Braden Benedict, Marvin Hamilton, Buddy Hopkins, Al
Gonzalez and Fred Duke.

Trinidad L. Soliz
Trinidad L. Soliz, 80, formerly of Kingsville, died Wednesday at his home in
Corpus Christi.
He was retired from the maintenance department of Memorial Hospital there.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Soliz of Corpus Christi: one son Gilberto Solis of
Kingsville; one brother, Salvador Solis, and two daughters, Angie Torres and Trinie
Gutierrez, all of Corpus Christi, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted here Friday at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home with the
Rev. Rufino Sendejo officiating. Burial was in Chamberlain Cemetery.

Nora White
Former longtime Kingsville resident Nora White, 104, died
Wednesday in San Antonio.
Mrs. White lived in Kingsville for about 25 years. During World War II,
She rented apartments to Navel personnel assigned to the Kingsville Navel
Air Station. She later rented apartments to students at Texas A & I University.
At one time she owned a flower shop here.
She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Mathis of Castroville; a son, Richard
White of Midland; two brothers, Robert Sidney Hill of San Antonio and Charles
Benjamin Hill of De Quincey, La.; two sisters, Mary Jane Horn of Bay City and
Rebecca “Bessie” Jones of Rockport; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren
And seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marshall-Ramey Funeral Home in
Rockport. Burial was at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.

long illness.

Mrs. Georgia Brooks
Mrs. Georgia Brooks, 84, died at 3:12 a.m. Sunday in Kleberg Country Hospital after a long
illness.
She was a native of Eagle Lake and had lived here since 1912, coming from Houston.
Services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday at King Star Baptist Church followed by burial in
Chamberlain Cemetery under the direction of Piper Funeral Home.
Survivors include a niece Mrs. Emma MacWilliams of Kingsville; a nephew, Wiley B. Moore of
Houston.

Shirley Jo Davidson
Shirley Jo Davidson, 36, of Bishop, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday in Kleberg County Hospital
after a long illness.
A native of Kilgore, she had lived in Bishop the past 12 years, coming from
Albuquerque, N. M.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. John’s Lutheran Church followed by burial
in Restland Memory Park under the direction of Piper Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, Terry; a son, Buddy Sanders; her mother, Mrs. Mabel Sullins
all of Bishop; two sisters, Mrs. Patsy Rich of Bishop, Mrs. Joan Sue Cortinas of
Albuquerque.

William (Bill) Hooper
William (Bill) Hooper, 81, of Beeville, Texas, passed away at his home at
1:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, after a short illness.
He was a former resident of Kleberg County during the 1930’s. He was born in Tellico
Plains, Tenn., and moved to Texas with his family at the age of nine.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Reynolds Hooper of Beeville; a daughter,
Mrs. Zeffie L. Burris of Kingsville; two sons, Freeman Hooper and Floyd Hooper of
Beeville; a brother, Eckles Hooper of Sinton; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Moore of Sinton,
Mrs. Tennessee Coleman of Seguin, and Mrs. Minnie Martens of Memphis, Tenn., five
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Hooper was a member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Galloway and Sons Funeral Chapel
in Beeville. Rev. Don Warden, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Kingsville, conducted the
services. Burial was in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbears were Billy Bippert, Ernest Bippert, Jr., David Yeary, J. L. Wilson, all of
Kingsville; R. V. Wagner, Corpus Christi, and Red Harris, Sweeny Switch.

Cecilia Vavricka
Cecilia Vavricka, 80, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Retama Manner Nursing Home after a
short illness.
A native of Yoakum, she had lived in Kingsville 37 years. Rosary was recited Monday at
8 p.m. in Piper Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Gertrude’s Catholic
Church followed by burial in Chamberlain Cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Christine Ray of Kingsville, Mrs. Ida Rathman and
Mrs. Lillian Williams, both of San Antonio; and Mrs. Stella Ezzell of Ringgold; a son,
George Vavricka of Corpus Christi; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian McCanless of San Antonio,
Mrs. Justina Reinshek of Charlotte, Mrs. Tessie Brown of Dilley and Mrs. Agnes Sitka of
Yoakum; three brothers, Fred Orsack of Von Ormy, John Orsack and Emil Orsack, both of
Dilley; ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Kingsville Marine Dies in Accident on Pacific Island
Pfc. Frank C. Vavricka, 20, died on March 4 as the result of an accident while on
duty with an amphibious tractor unit of the Marine Corps on Guam, according to Navy
Department advices received by the parents of the youth. Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Vavricka,
724 West. Kleberg Ave.
Young Vavricka was injured when a tractor turned over, and died, within minutes, according
to word received from a Navy Chaplin who administered the last rites of the church. The
body will be returned to Kingsville for burial, it was stated.
The young Marine attended the public schools here, enlisting about 18 months ago, and had
been on duty in the Pacific for the past nine months.
Besides his father and mother, he is survived by a brother George, two sisters; Ida and
Christina all of Kingsville; two half sisters, Mrs. Paula Brown and Mrs. Stella Ezell,
and a half brother, Ben Vavricka, all of San Antonio.

Frank Vavricka Services Set For Thursday
Funeral services for Frank Vavricka, 73, are scheduled at 9 a.m. Thursday at St.
Gertrude’s Catholic Church with burial in the Chamberlain Burial Park. Vavricka, who had
resided here since 1934, died at 4:15 p.m. Monday in the Kleberg County Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Cecilia; two sons, Sgt. Ben Vavricka of Ft. Carson, Colo., and
George of Refugio; four daughters, Mrs. Joe Rathmann and Mrs. Paul Brown, both of San
Antonio, Mrs. Vernon Ezzel of Ringgold and Mrs. Oscar Ray, Jr. of Kingsville; and three
sisters, Mrs. Joe Ermis of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Joe Jezck of Deming, N. M., and Miss Mary
Vavricka of Sweet Home.
The Reverend George Baumgartner of St. Gertrude’s will officiate.
