BADU HOUSE

“Built in 1891 during the city’s iron production boom days, this structure originally housed the First National Bank of Llano. In 1898 it was purchased by French native N. J. “Professor” Badu, a noted local mineralogist, for use as a residence. Designed by the Austin firm of Larramour and Watson, it features renaissance revival detailing and a distinctive band of native granite in a checkerboard pattern. Badu’s descendants lived here for many years. It was recorded as a Texas Historical Landmark 1981.” In more recent years this building was used as a period style restaurant, however due to the dwindling economy of this the twenty-first century it was closed for a period of time. The Badu House now has new owners who have once again reopened it as a wine and dine establishment, accompanied by musical entertainment on occasion. It is reported that there are plans to utilize the upstairs portion of the building as a local B&B soon.
