4^th in County history – Building began 1892, Completed 1893

Located on the courthouse at the East door is the historical marker that reads as follows:

“Designed by Austin architect a. o. Watson, this building is the fourth courthouse for Llano County. Work on the structure began in 1892 and was completed one year later. The contractors were j. a. and g. h. Wilson of sulphur springs. The courthouse was later surrounded by an iron fence, but only the stone foundations remain. Exterior styling of the building features detailing of sandstone, marble, and granite. Fires damaged the interior in 1932 and 1952. Recorded Texas historical landmark 1980. Entered in the national register of historical places 1977.”

Located on the north side of courthouse is the polished grayish-white marble cornerstone, which reads:

“1892 – County judge, w. s. Maxwell; Commissioners, John Spiess, J. A. Coursey, J. W. Baker, J. R. Decker; County Clerk, M. M. Hargis; County Treasurer, G. C. Staples.”
