CLAN FERRILL in Mississippi
April 4, 2012 will mark the passage of two centuries since Bryant T. Ferrill, in Georgia, was granted a federal passport to "travel through the Creek Nation to the Western County, which “Western Country’ would on December 18 of that year be named the Mississippi Territory. In August of that year Bryant, wife Susannah Williamson Ferrill, seven children and eleven black slaves travelled across to the “Western County” by way of a four-foot wide trail to what we now know as George County Mississippi. Every possession was moved on animal backs, wheelbarrows and ground sleds. The youngest child in the movement was about six months old, and he appears to have made the movement without special problems. His name was John Wesley Ferrill, and he lived another 91 years, most of that time as a Methodist ordained minister, preaching in churches across the coastal plain of Mississippi.
It has been said that John Wesley Ferrill was the namesake of John Wesley, widely credited as being the founder of Methodism.
