Queries

We recommend that you post your queries at Ancestry.com but we're happy to post them here, too. Just write up your query and email it to the coordinator.

Queries are posted and archived as a service to our visitors. They function as a "bulletin board" system so visitors can find others who are researching the same surnames.

There are no dates on most of these queries but they're very old. The email addresses probably don't work but you may find a clue here to help with your research.

Kirchhoff, Voges, Vasterling
Your Name: Debbie Klinksiek
Your Email: dklinksiek@ctesc.net
A Query:
Franz Heinrich "Heinrich" Kirchhoff (1845-1884) married Johanna Voges (1855-1881) in 1870. After her death, he married Selma Nitchke (1849-1936).
I am particularly interested in both wives and their parents. I am also interested in all Kirchhoff descendents.
Before her marriage, Johanna was living with the Christoph Voges family who I believe were her grandparents because they were more than 50 years older.
After Heinrich's and Johanna's death, their daughter, Lena, lived with her 'Grandmother Vasterling'.
I have found the following:
1) 1845 immigration record that Maria Hoppen was the wife of Heinrich Wertmann (who was deceased)
2) Vereins Kirche marriage record that Christoph Voges married Mary Hoppen in 1852 in Fredericksburg.
3) Hilda birth record for Heinrich Vasterling on 24 Dec 1866 and whose parents are "H. & Fridarica Werthmann Vasterling"
Was Fridarica Werthmann Vasterling the mother of Johanna and the grandmother of Lena?
Was Mary Hoppen Wertmann Voges the mother of Fridarica Werthmann Vasterling and the grandmother of Johanna?
I would appreciate any leads to solve this puzzle.

Huff, Mooring
Chrystal Talbott
I am interested in finding out any additional information on the John G. and M.A. Morin household listed on the June 1900 Mason County census.
I believe this is my great great grandparents, surname Mooring. His wife was Martha Aldora (Dora) Huff. Also in this household is a sister-in-law, J. A. Huff.
I ran across a marriage listing for a D.D. Coots and a Julia Huff on the Mason Co. website. I'm wondering if this is my Aunt? I also ran across a death listing for a Julia Coats in 1905. On the 1910 census I found a Dee Coots married to a Sarah.
Besides trying to track down the Mooring's and Huff's, I've become interested in the Coots'. On my great grandmother's "delayed" birth certificate a D.D. Coots, signed it as one of the witnesses in 1942. I'm trying to figure out if it's the same D.D. Coots mentioned above.
Thanks, Chrystal

East Comanche
In a journal which gives a list of names as well as minutes of a Sunday School in Mason in the 1890's, at the top of one list is:
"East Comanche Sunday School, June the 6, 1897." At least one researcher has mentioned the East Comanche Methodist Church of which her uncle was treasurer. Can someone shed some light on "East Comanche" as related to Mason?

George ULLRICH
Guten Tag, Wanda !
I am a family researcher from Germany.
One of my direct ancestors is Johann Nicolaus ULLRICH from Lindenau / Meiningen born ab.1810
According to the fact that Lindenau was quite small village with approx. 150 inhabitants at that time it looks quite probable that he is direct relative (brother) to your George ULLRICH born 1813
I did not start to research on Johann Nicolaus ULRRICH yet. He was NOT married to Marthe Jacobine MAHR - but they had child Karl Friedrich MAHR born 1838, my great grandfather. Maybe this fact looks quite unbelievable.
But in fact my great grandfather was born 115 years before my birth :-)
I will start to research on Johann Nicolaus ULLRICH maybe in October and I would be glad to send to you any results if I would have success in it.
Best regards

David Doole
John A. Stovall
johnastovall@earthlink.net
I'm seeking information on the location of the grave of David Doole (11/25/1832-8/17/1924)
Mason (Mason County) Mason is the county seat -
Cemetery Unknown: DAVID DOOLE (11/25/1832-8/17/1924). JM (11/4/04) found the following article on p.10 in his reprint issue of Frontier Times (Vol. 2 October, 1924 No. 1): "Maj. David Doole, who platted the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, a veteran of the Civil War, the Indian wars and the Mormon rebellion, the oldest Mason in Texas in point of service and for a half century a resident of southwest Texas, died August 17th at his home in Mason at the age of 91. Major Doole was born in Belfast, Ireland on 11/25/1832 and came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 8 years old. The family settled in New York State. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the army and served throughout the war as a member of the Union forces. After the close of the war he was sent to Arizona where he participated in some of the early fights with the Apaches and other tribes of the Southwest. He also aided in subduing the Mormon rebellion. Later he was discharged from the army and was post trader at Mason. He held this position for 2 years and later opened a general merchandise establishment at Mason, which he operated until his retirement from business 20 years ago." The article says that he was survived by 3 sons, one of whom was "David Doole, Jr.of Austin". Although "Maj." Doole does not have a bio in HOT, there is a short entry for "Doole, Texas:" which reflects that this presently nearly defunct small community on Hwy. 765 northwest of Brady in McCulloch Co. was named for "David Doole, Jr., the postmaster at Brady".
