Comments: Lorenzo Dow Yarbrough came to McMullen County in 1858 with his
father John Swanson Yarbrough. They lived in the small settlement, Yarbrough
Bend, with other family and friends. Dow served in the 2nd Regiment Texas Mounted
Rifles and was transferred to CO K 2nd Regiment Texas Cavalry where he served
until the end of the Civil War. By 1890 Dow and his family were living in LaSalle
County. In 1906 Dow filed for his pension for having served in the civil
war, but he died before he ever received his pension. Nancy did file for the
pension after Dow's death and received a pension until her death in 1931. Dow
received a military headstone, but Nancy is buried beside him in the Cotulla
Cemetery without a headstone. It should also be noted that their son John Swanson,
daughter n law Jane Crawford, and son David are also buried on the same
row, but without headstones.
