Gladys "Marie" Morris passed away peacefully Friday, February
27, 2004 at a local hospital.
She was born May 23, 1924 in Austin, Texas to James and Gladys
Allen. Marie grew up in Austin and attended school there. On
March 13, 1943, she married Drayton Earl Morris in Austin. Marie
has lived in Midland since 1969. She was a member of Grace
Presbyterian Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Marie was an
avid bridge player and life master, holding a total of 1,856.09
points with the American Contract Bridge League. Above all else,
Marie was always a loving and caring mother and wife.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Marie Hillmer
Allen; her father, James Ray Allen; her brothers, Dan Herman
Allen, Thomas Grover Allen and Archy Ray Allen.
Marie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Drayton Earl
Morris of Midland, TX; her son, Marvin Allen Morris of
Waynesville, MO; her daughter, Virginia Fay Bynum of Midland,
TX; her sisters, Elsby Mae Rhea of Bethany, OK and Bessie E.
Collins of Midland, TX; her five grandchildren, Richard Morris,
Mike Morris, Jason Morris, Thad Reese and Ryan Reese; and one
great-grandchild, Chandler Reese.
The family will receive visitors at Ellis Funeral Home Monday,
March 1, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 2,
2004 at Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Bonds
officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Ned Daniels, William Smith, Keith Sommerville,
Marlin Farris, Ryan Reese, Thad Reese and Jason Morris.
