Billie Ruth Tartt Abernathy, the mother of Judy Brown of
Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 22, in Rapides Regional Medical
Center in Alexandria, La.
A memorial service was held this morning in Alexandria,
Louisiana
A funeral service for Mrs. Abernathy, 84, is set for 10 a.m.
Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Loraine with the
Rev. Bobby Magee officiating. Interment will follow in the
Loraine Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral
Home.
Born March 9, 1918 to Will and Chera Young, In Clyde,
Callahan County, Texas. Her parents were longtime Callahan
County ranchers. She was a 1939 graduate of Abilene
Christian University.
She was a teacher in the Loraine Independent School District
for 29 years and farmed in Mitchell County. While in
Loraine, she served as a community volunteer and was a
member of the First Baptist Church. After moving to
Pineville, Louisiana, she was a member of the Kingsville
Baptist Church. She married George E. Abernathy
(1919-1990)on January 2, 1988 in Tom Green County, Texas,
and he died on Aug. 20, 1990.
Her first husband was Bernice Wilmon "B.W." Tartt (1917 –
1994). There were 4 daughters of this marriage.
She also was preceded in death by an infant brother, Max
Young; a sister, Verna Jo Corder; and her parents.
Survivors include three other daughters and sons-in-law,
Loretta and Danny Magee of Pineville, Gwen and Gary Book of
Little Rock, Ark., and Karen and Mitch Hamer of Midland;
another son-in-law, Donny Brown of Snyder; seven
grandchildren, Gina Gotschall of Oklahoma City, Nolan Daniel
of Pineville, Lance Bell and Cody Bell of San Angelo, Ben
Brown of Snyder, Landon Hamer and Cameron Hamer of Midland;
and one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Daniel of Pineville.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home. |
