Dorothy Elva Audette Ballard Acuff

Our dear beautiful Dorothy Elva Audette Ballard Acuff joined her loving husband Samuel Kenneth Acuff on Sunday, August 8, 2010, to be together with their Lord. She was the sparkle and shine in the lives of her daughters and their families, and though she is already missed by them tremendously, they are joyous that she has left behind the pain and suffering of disease and has moved into the mercy and grace of her heavenly home.

Dorothy, and her precious soul mate, Kenneth, raised two daughters, Sharla Audette and Bridget, and was loved and cherished not only by them but by their spouses, children and grandchildren, all of whom she rejoiced in.

She was fiercely brave and determined as she battled cancer, teaching us all to smile in the face of adversity. Her friends and family admired her tenacity and spirit, and her zest for life.

After her retirement from county and city offices, she looked forward to the time she spent in the fellowship of her church and the camaraderie she enjoyed with friends at the Wallace Center.

"Dottie" is survived by her dear sister, Jean Croley and brother-in-law, Bob Croley, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Gerry Mayfield, and her precious nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in the peace of death by her husband, Kenneth and her brother. Sonnny Calverly.

She is also survived by her daughters, Sharla Brake and Bridget Crockett; her son-in-law, Bruce Crockett; her grandchildren, Ken Ashmore, Lucas and Erica Ashmore, Lane Ashmore, Drue Dalton, Brian Crockett, Kristen and Nick Brautigam and Amanda and Will Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Dalton, Beckett and Kenlee.

She leaves behind many others who adored her, both famiy members, friends and neighbors, as well as her precious Maltese grand-dog, Zach.

Funeral services are under the auspices of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home with a visitation for friends and family on Tuesday, August 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services were held at the Church of Christ on Wednesday, August 11, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Colorado City Cemetery.
