COLORADO CITY (RNS) ~~ John Edwin Fortenberry, 81, former Colorado City resident died in the Medical Arts Hospital in Big Spring Wednesday after a long illness.

Funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Oak Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Travis Bedford of Abilene officiating, assisted by the Rev. Carl Lee, pastor. Burial will be in the Colorado Cemetery under the direction of Kiker and Son Funeral Home.

Born in Alabama February 7, 1885 he moved to Big Spring from Colorado City in 1942. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. His first wife, the former Effie Parrish, died in Colorado City in 1936. He married Mrs. Willie Chatwell in Big Spring in 1944.

Srvivors include his wife; three sons, Ewell of Big Spring, Dennis and Loyd, both of Colorado City; three daughters, Mrs. J.D. (Edna) Buckner of Colorado City, Mrs.
Ray (Beulah) Bedford of Big Spring and Mrs. Floyd (Hazel) Dobbs of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Ross Dockery of Arizona and Mrs. Emma Lamb of Wolfe City, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Son of John A. and Mary Jane Cantrell Fortenberry.
