COLORADO CITY (SC) ~~ Mrs. Jack G. Smith, 74, longtime Colorado City resident died in the Watson Memorial Home in Fort Worth Wednesday night following an illness of two years.

She was born October 25, 1887 in Hearne, Texas, and married Jack G. Smith June 16, 1900 in Houston. The couple moved to Colorado City the same year.

Mr. Smith was a rancher and county commissioner of Mitchell County prior to his death in 1943. Mrs. Smith had been in the Fort Worth home for two years. She was a civic and religious leader in Colorado City and had been active in the Tubercular Association of Texas, the Shakespeare Club, the Daughters of the Confederacy, and was a member of the County Library Board. She had served as one of the first presidents of Colorado City's P.T.A., and had taught Sunday school for 25 years in the First Baptist Church in Colorado City.

Funeral was to be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church, with Rev. H. W. Bartlett, pastor, officiating. The Rev. W. C. Ashford, Abilene, will assist. The body will lie in state at the Kiker and Son Funeral Home until time for the service, and the casket will be closed at the church. Burial will be in the Colorado City Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bryan Lawlis, San Angelo, and Mrs. John A Murrell, Jr., Fort Worth; a brother, Edgar Bounds, San Antonio; a sister, Mrs. Earl Powell, Roswell, New Mexico; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
