Welcome

In 1876, the Texas legislature formed Moore County from lands formerly assigned to Bexar County but it wasn't organized until 1892. Located in the Texas Panhandle, it is named for Commodore Edwin Ward Moore (1810-1865). He was Commander of the Texas Navy when Texas was still a Republic. The county seat is Dumas, named for its founder, Louis Dumas (1856-1923).
