SNYDER DAILY NEWS http://www.snyderdailynews.com/Stories/index.htm Burton Tankersley 1916-2000 Daniel Burton Tankersley, longtime Snyder resident, died Monday, July 10, in Lakeside Covenant Hospital in Lubbock after a brief illness. Funeral service for Mr. Tankersley, 83, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Colonial Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Miller Robinson, retired minister, and Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Born Oct. 16, 1916 in Eastland, he married Mittie Williamson on Dec. 31, 1935 in Eastland. Mr. Tankersley moved to Snyder in 1951 and was a charter member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Tankersley was one of the first three deacons of the church. He retired from Chevron after 31 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Mittie Tankersley of Snyder; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Tankersley of Snyder and Joel and Sallye Tankersley of Lubbock; a foster son and his wife, Royce and Margaret Burrows of Austin; a brother, G.W. Tankersley of Ranger; six grandchildren, Dean Tankersley of Boise, Idaho, Jeff Tankersley of Amarillo, Krista Tankersley of Dallas, Dawn Garza of Lubbock and Tammy Price of Midland; and six great-grandchildren. Friends are contributing to the American Diabetes Association, 2209 Big Spring, Suite J. in Midland or to the American Cancer Society, 1901 26th Street in Snyder. Family visitation between 7 and 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
