Wilson L. Shoffner

Wilson L. Shoffner was born February 25,
1844 in Tennessee. He married Hellen M. Crigler in Ellis
County, Texas on December 10, 1874. Hellen was born August
4,, 1858 and died December 29, 1903 near Chalk Mountain, Texas.
Her parents were born in Missouri.
Wilson and Hellen were the parents of at
least five children. There are two infants buried in the
Waxahachie City Cemetery in Ellis County, Texas. They were
born after 1874 and died before 1879.
Edgar E. Shoffner was born about 1879,
probably in Ellis County Texas. He married Birtie
Childress in Somervell County, Texas on January 19, 1900.
Willie Shoffner was born October 8, 1881 and
died April 28, 1886. He is buried in George's Creek
Cemetery.
The last known child was a daughter,
Elizabeth A. "Bettie" Shoffner who was born in October of 1882.
She married S.E. Newman on September 23, 1900 in Somervell County,
Texas.
Wilson L. Shoffner was elected Sheriff of
Somervell County, Texas on November 6, 1894 and served until
January 1, 1897. He died one mile east of Chalk Mountain,
Texas on May 3, 1904. Both he and his wife Hellen are buried
at Chalk Mountain Cemetery. The cemetery is located in the
extreme eastern section of Erath County, Texas on the Somervell
County line.
