Louis Conor Alexander, 76, died Sunday, January 26, 1997, after a brief illness. Louie was born on May 4, 1920 in Lometa, Texas, to Zora Carter Alexander and Charles Henry Alexander. His family moved to San Angelo in 1926. After graduating from San Angelo High School, Louie worked for the Texas Highway Department Engineers and also for the Corps of Engineers in Midland, Texas until entering the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in 1942. He was stationed on the island of Maui in Hawaii and in Saipan during World War II. He met Rebecca Kirby in California while in the Navy. They married in 1945 in Oxnard, California. After his discharge from the Navy, the couple moved to San Angelo where Louie worked for the Highway Department again. They lived in Big Lake and Sangelo, then moved to Sterling City, where they lived nearly 30 years. After his retirement from the Highway Department, Louie was a partner in A & B construction Company. He returned to San Angelo in the early ‘80's. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, two daughters, Louise and her husband Ian Hailstone of Spring, Lynn and he husband Pietro James of Helena, Montana, one son don and his wife Betsy Alexander of Celina; five grandchildren and a great-grandson: one brother, Charles Alexander Jr. and his wife Beth; one sister Iris Lorea Gaddy and husband, Kenneth. Louie has donated his body to Texas Tech Medical School. A memorial service, celebrating his life, conducted by his friends and family was held on Tuesday, January 28 at the First Christian Church in San Angelo.
