John I. Blair

Sterling City John I. Blair, 84, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1993, in Concho Valley Regional Hospital.

He was born July 22, 1908, to T. J. and Florence Blair in Sterling City in Sterling County. He lived in Sterling city most of his life and spent two years in Arizona as a child. On Oct. 26, 1935, John Married Etherl Smith. Out of that union was born one son, Billy Joe Blair.

John and Ethel moved to Mertzon in 1940 and worked on the Martin Reed Ranch for 16 years, the birth place of their only son.

In July 1956, John and his family returned to Sterling city. John worked for the J.C. Reed Ranch as ranch foreman from 1958-1968. From 1968 - 1978, John worked as a welder with Elton Hull. The latter part of his life was spent hauling materials from San Angelo to Sterling city, helping his son in the construction business.

John was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters. Two of his sisters died as infants.

John is survived by his wife, Etherl Blair of Sterling City; a son, Billy Joe Blair of Sterling city; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials by made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Sterling City with Him Petty officiating. Burial will follow in Montvale Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ross Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Frank Stewart, Kyle Stewart, Poke Brown, Drew Durham, Luther Smith and Lewis Watson.
