Maples Grave

Contributed by Rob Yoder

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers moved the graves from five cemeteries during the construction of Benbrook Lake. This grave was also under consideration to be moved, but was never found. All of the information on this page was abstracted from the Corp of Engineers 1949 report titled "Cemetery Relocation Plan, Benbrook Dam and Reservoir."

On 4 April 1948, C.A. MAPLES and Robert J. MAPLES, accompanied by Harry TRADER, an employee of the Corps of Engineers, made a complete and thorough search for the lone grave of their infant baby sister. This grave is situated in the William Anglin Survey, Abstract No. 6, further located as being on the bottom land on the east side of Rocky Creek and westerly of the old house site established on one A.T. WOOTEN.

Several hours were spent searching for our infant sister's grave. Old fence lines and corners were found which were pertinant to the location of the grave. After exhaustive search, we are convinced that the grave cannot be found.

Therefore we, C.A. Maples and Robert J. Maples do hereby release the Government of any and all obligation it now has or may have to disinter and reinter our said sister's grave, because of the Construction of the Benbrook Dam and Reservoir Project.

Signed this 2nd day of September 1949: C.A. Maples of Decatur, Texas; Robert J. Maples, 2827 West Fifth Street, Fort Worth, Texas; and witnessed by Harry Trader, 902 T. & P. Building, Fort Worth, Texas.
