This is an African-American cemetery that sits atop a hill, not much more than a hundred yards northwest of the west end of the Lake Arlington dam. It appears to be about 4 or 5 acres in size and gets occasional maintenance. The earliest burial, according to the headstones, was in 1902 and the most recent in 1968. Access was made by a trail going up the hill from the 7100 block of East Rosedale Street. It was made by trucks going through the grass and brush to a construction site nearby. Apparently, work trucks aren't the only vehicles going up there. There were recent tire tracks where someone had driven through a recently made gap in the fence and made a complete lap through the cemetery before leaving. Although there are plenty of signs of vandalism, no recent damage to the headstones was apparent. Along the south side, about 75 feet of six-foot high chain-link fencing looks to have been recently stolen. What's more, the steel posts were bent over and destroyed in order to drag the section of fence into the brush free cemetery. The gate is about 50 feet north of an old section of Arkansas Lane that has been closed to automobile traffic for about 30 years. The road once crossed the dam and crossed through the countryside along the southern edge of Arlington. Some say that this stretch was closed due to cars running off the narrow road into the lake. Not all of the unreadable headstones were photographed and others may have been overlooked in the high grass. (November 2006) This cemetery is cared for by the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 1901 Amanda Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76105. Phone (817) 535-3094. |

Hervey Williams is still a child living with his parents when
we find him in the 1900 census of Tarrant County.
Cheney WILLIAMS is shown to be a black male, age 40, born January 1860 in
Texas, as were his parents. He was working as a saloon porter. His wife,
Sallie, is age 35, a black female born November 1864 in Texas. Her father
was also born in Texas, and her mother in Tennessee. She was the mother of
six children and worked as a laudress. Cheney and Sallie had been married
for 16 years.
