Petition of Ben F. Hagood, a minor heir of Elish Hagood Dec'd being a minor over the age of fourteen years, that the court appoint James K. Allen guardian of his person and property. He further represents that Richard K., James O., and Rufus B. Hagood are minors under the age of fourteen years, that they have no guardian within this state, and asks that James K. Allen be appointed their guardian. Filed Oct. 31, 1859. Report of Guardian, J. K. Allen, that he received from G. Terry, of Kentucky, $547.25 belonging to his wards. Filed 28 May 1860. Report of Guardian, James K. Allen, that he has received from D. B. Smith, former guardian of said minors, $500, which he reports as assetts in his hands belonging to minors. Filed 27 August 1860. Report of J. K. Allen, guardian, that he has paid W. L. Hagood for board and clothing of said minors. Filed 26 November 1860. "New" Bond of James K. Allen, gdn of James and Rufus Hagood, minors; $6000. Sureties: Lawrence Steel, John A. Petty, and G. F. Petty. Approved 21 October 1861. Report of J. K. Allen, guardian, that he has paid the following for Tuition: W. D. Hall, Wm Hall, and Brown. Filed Feb. 22, 1862. Final Account of James K. Allen, guardian of the minor heirs of Elisha Hagood. He reports amount recovered from D. Smith, former Guar. in Kentucy: $1052.50; also: $1842.60, for total of $2895.10. Interest on Hall note: $20. Total $2915.10. He has paid out $357 for tuition to Hall, Brown, Bagwell, and Hall. 31 August 1863. Bond of Porter B. Smallwood, guardian of James and Rufus Hagood; $2458. Sureties: Jas. K. Allen and F. J. Jones. Approved 28 September 1863. Bond of James K. Allen, guardian of Richard Hagood; $1200. Sureties: Porter B. Smallwood and Junius W. Smith. Approved 28 September 1863. Inventory of the property of Benjamin and Richard Hagood, minors, by James K. Allen, gdn, shows notes on G. T. Petty, Louis and Pinn? (Peter?) Hall, and R. King. Filed 25 January 1864. "Statement and Exhibit by P. B. Smallwood, Gdn of James O. and Rufus Hagood, minor heirs of Elisha Hagood, dec'd.... I received from the hand of James K. Allen, former Guardian of said minors the sum of $1299 (in Confederate Bonds)." Report shows tuition for both minors paid to Miss Fannie Evans in the year 1863. "In submitting this Exhibit to your honorable court, I also beg to resign my trust as Guardian of said Minors, for causes of which some are, That I am a Soldier in the Service of the Confed. States and have not the opportunities to give the necessary attention To the Control of the Person and Effects of said Minors, whilst their more immediate friend, or Persons who are not Subject to Military duty, can govern them and guard their interests, in a much more desirable manner than I can. I charge no fees as Guardian. S/ P. B. Smallwood.
