Joyce Owen Goldwire
From the May 26, 2006 issue of the Terrell County News-Leader, page 2:Funeral services were Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Sanderson for Joyce Owen Goldwire ho died Thursday morning, May 18, 2006, in Fort Stockton.
Bro. Randy Bush officiated with Bro. John Carnagey and his wife Leah providing music. Burial was at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Joyce Nina Owen was born May 10, 1936, in Cass County to Lamar Garrett Owen and Susie Ineva Hamilton Owen. She graduated as Salutatorian from Atlanta High School in 1954 and attended business college in Houston.
She married A. N. Farley, Jr., in Houston in 1956. Farley died in 1978. Joyce worked as a loan officer in Houston and also in Sanderson.
In January of 1982, Joyce married Bill Goldwire of Sanderson, enjoying ranch life and extensive travel for 25 years including journeys as far as Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, the Gulf Coast, the New England states, the West Coast and the British Isles.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sanderson where she served as treasurer for many years. She was an active member of the Culture Club and served as General Federation of Women's Clubs Texas Western District president for two years.
She was an active member of the high school booster clubs, historical commission, senior citizens and a Centennial Committee member. Joyce was a Mary Kay cosmetics consultant for many years.
Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, J. Frank Owen and Billy Clark Owen, and her sisters, Sibyl Wiley and Wanda Ruley.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her son Kevin Farley and wife Melissa of Fort Stockton; daughters Selene Farley Amberson and Susie Farley of Austin; her step children Lloyd Goldwire of Sanderson and Alice Goldwire Glass and her husband David of Lyme, New Hampshire, her sisters LaRue Cohn of San Leandro, California, Jo Brand of Vivian, Louisiana, and Patricia Little of Atlanta, Texas, three grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pall bearers were nephews Lamar Little, Dan Swanson, Trevor Swanson, David Farley, Robert J. Farley, and Robert G. Farley.
