Kay Johnson of Sanderson has announced the engagement of her daughter, Kayla Michelle Johnson to David Lee Powell, Jr., of Alpine, son of Lora and David Powell of Mexia. The couple plans to exchange vows at Post Park in Marathon on June 3, 2006.

Johnson is a 2005 graduate of Sanderson High School and now attends Sul Ross State University where she is majoring in criminal justice. She is employed by the Alpine Police Department.

Powell is a 2003 graduate of Alpine High School and is currently employed as an instructor for High Frontier, Inc., a residential treatment facility.
