Ellis Ranch Unnamed Cemetery is one of several in Titus County that must, at this time, be considered lost. Since no monuments existed in the cemetery, no effort was expended to locate it exactly. It was located in the Davy Whitworth Headright Survey A-615 plot 200-202 on lands currently owned by Heinrick & Teresa Gunster. Lynch Harper in his “Cemeteries of Titus County” states there were from 6 to 20 ex-slaves buried in this cemetery. He further states that “This graveyard is a short distance south of Snake Creek, on a hill in a wooded area. Retired Dr. John Ellis did not remember the location of the cemetery. He was quoted in the Lynch Harper reference above as stating a young African-American named Toby Newton was buried in the cemetery.
