The Evans cemetery is located about 4 miles east of Mt. Pleasant on the V. Evans Estate. This is an old cemetery with stones showing burial back in the 1850's and at one time, it was thought that there were probably 59 graves. The cemetery is in a very peaceful surrounding with access only obtained across private land. A secure fence surrounds the location and the grounds are well maintained. An interesting sidelight to this survey was the unusually good condition of the monuments in spite of being old and located in a damp area surrounded by trees. No history of the cemetery was located and that is unfortunate because of its age.
To reach the Evans Cemetery from the Titus County courthouse, take Jefferson Avenue (US 271) North for 0.9 miles to the intersection with US 67 (16th Street). Turn right (East) on US 67 and proceed 2.7 miles. The private drive to the cemetery lies on the right of US67. Turn right and proceed for 0.3 mile (keep to the right at the “fork” of the drive. The cemetery will lie on the right. Coordinates: 33o10.801'N 094o55.275'W
