Evergreen is an old, abandoned and almost lost African-American cemetery located in far Northeast Titus County about 15 miles East of Talco on FM Highway 71 about one mile from the Morris County line. Without proper maintenance, it will soon be lost. It lies in the forks of County Road NE 48 (CR 3925) and the highway. Logans, Prices and other families are buried in this cemetery. There are at least thirteen unmarked graves visible. Eight native stones remain to mark some of the graves. One of these stones has the initials D.A.W. & E.G.W. scratched into them. There is only one monument in the cemetery for: Price, Mose born: March 3, 1853 died: March 12, 1920. To reach the Evergreen Cemetery from the Titus County courthouse take Jeffers on Street north for 1.4 miles to the intersection of Burton Road (IH 30 southern access road) and turn right (East) onto Burton Road. The Harts Bluff Road (FM 1402) will intersect after 0.5 miles. Turn left (North) onto FM 1402 and proceed 12.4 miles to the intersection of FM 71. Turn right (East onto FM 71 and proceed 6.6 miles to the intersection from the left of CR 48 (CR 3925) Turn left onto CR 3925. The cemetery will lie on left about 0.1 mile.
The following persons are listed in the “Cemeteries of Titus County” by Lynch Harper as having been buried in this cemetery. No attempt has been made to verify the listing.
