Ft. Sherman/Miller Cemetery
Home

This cemetery is located in the Southwest part of Titus County in what is now the Bob Sandlin State Park. A chain link fence surrounds the cemetery and the state maintenance has placed it in a very fine condition. It could be the oldest cemetery in the county, as some of the earliest settlement took place in this region in the 1830s. Old Fort Sherman, from which the cemetery derives its name, was established nearby in 1839. It is impossible to now determine the number of graves that might be enclosed by the large perimeter fence since the elements and development removed much of the indicators.

To reach the Ft. Sherman Cemetery from the Titus county court house, take West 1st street west for 0.5 miles to the intersection with Ferguson Road (US 271). Proceed straight through the intersection, the designation will be FM 127. After 10.7 miles FM 127 intersects with FM 21 in the Blodgett community. Veer left at the stop sign for FM 21 and proceed 1.0 mile to the entrance to Bob Sandlin State Park on the left. Turn left onto the Park Road and continue for 0.4 miles to an intersecting Park Road. Turn right at the stop sign for 0.5 mile. Turn right into the parking lot area. The cemetery lies 0.1 mile on the right. Adequate parking and an entrance gate to the cemetery are there.
