Goodman Cemetery | Home |
The Goodman Cemetery is located in far Northeast Titus County and is in one of the most rugged terrains of any any of the the Titus County cemeteries. The Lone Star Cemetery lies about three miles south of the Goodman. There is evidence of many graves. There is no road to this cemetery although a lane has been created by hunting and ranching personnel. The area is unfenced and heavily overgrown with no maintenance being indicated for some time. Without intervention, the cemetery will most probably be completely lost. A grove of trees has been left standing around the cemetery while the land to the north has been clearcut and new growth started. A small branch lies about 50 yards to the north of cemetery making access even more difficult. Briars and thick undergrowth makes hacking a passage necessary so a machete type device is recommended. No history of the cemetery was found and no mention of the cemetery set aside in any of the deeds. Directions to reach the Goodman Cemetery are even very difficult to convey. From the Titus County court house take Jefferson Street north for 1.4 miles to the intersection with Burton Road (service road for IH-30). Turn right (East) onto Burton Road. The on ramp for Interstate 30 will be on the left 0.2 mile from the intersection. Enter IH-30 and proceed 8 miles east and take the Exit 170 FM 1993 off ramp. At the stop sign, turn right (South) onto FM 1993. Proceed 0.1 mile to the intersection of County Road 3140 (CR 34) and turn left (East) onto CR 3140. After 1.9 miles the road intersects with CR3147 (CR35). Turn left onto CR3147 and proceed 1.0 mile. At that point the road crosses over I-30 but prior to the bridge, there is an unpaved maintenance road that parallels the East bound lanes of I-30. Turn right onto this maintenance road and proceed to the dead end. At this writing, a wire gap permits entry to the land on which the cemetery lies. From this vantage point and looking Southeast, one can see a large cedar tree at the edge of the wooded area about 0.3 mile across the creek bottom. The cemetery lies to the left of the cedar tree. No landmark other than the terrain facilitates locating the cemetery. Coordinates: 33o15.859'N 094o48.950'W
