Pitt Cemetery is an abandoned and lost cemetery and has the distinction of being the southern most, located in the extreme Southeastern part of Titus County. It was named after the Pitt family, which were early settlers in the area and once owned the land on which the cemetery is found. It was closed in 1934. One impressive thing about the cemetery is the vast area over which the existing monuments are scattered. It is impossible to tell if there are numerous grave sites in the intervening space or whether those attending the burials chose to separate from the others. The area is dominated by a chain link fence surrounding the graves of the Fombys. Some monuments have been toppled and broken by the growth that is throughout the cemetery. It is completely in a densely wooded area located on a hill rising out of the Swanano Creek bottom. The remoteness and its difficult access threaten the cemetery with eradication.

In addition to the monuments listed later, there is one unreadable headstone, a rock that has an unreadable inscription, depressions, 4 granite slabs, 1 concrete marker with E. W. inscribed, and a metal plate that has a rounded end on which a lamb is embossed, that mark other grave sites.

To reach the Pitt Cemetery from the Titus County court house, take Madison Street south for 0.3 mile to the intersection with Ferguson Road (US 271). Turn left onto Ferguson Road and continue Southeast (the road becomes Texas Highway 49). Proceed 3.8 miles to the intersection of Chapel Hill Road (FM 1735). Turn right onto FM 1735 and continue for 8.4 miles to the intersection with Texas Highway 11. Turn left onto Texas 11 and proceed for 0.6 mile to the intersection from the right of County Road (CR) 4950 (CR SE 31). Turn right (South) onto CR 4950 and continue for 2.4 miles. This will place you East of the Swanano Creek bottom and a high voltage transmission line. Currently there is a gate that is the entrance to private property timber area. The cemetery lies about 0.7 mile south on a point of land protruding toward the Swanano Creek bottom. Coordinates: 33^o00.361'N 094^o50.406'W
