I was trying to research and get more information from my maternal side of the family. I can trace my roots as far back as my Great - Great - Great Grandfather Stanford PACE was born in Huntsville (Walker County), Texas about 1851 and died in huntsville on October 8, 1946. His father was Joseph Pace born in 1812 and he was married to Jane; Stanford's parents. I know there were Paces' that settled into town in the early 1800's. I am inquiring about a newspaper called the Texas Presbyterian. It moved to Huntsville according to the Texas State Historical Association's website http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articless/eet14. I would like to know if any of the old newspapers exist anywhere. I need a copy of December 6, 1851 newspaper. It is said to have the obit of Elisha CLAPP in that paper. I am looking for information on the GRANVILLE family from Huntsville, TX. My great great grandfather name was Frank Granville not really sure if the birthday but I believe his death date is Feb 19, 1956. I believe he was adopted by a family with the the last name Jones (John and Ella) around the age of 8. He married my great great grandmother Allie Rosie Granville not sure on the marriage date. I am trying to locate Ruth Lee Thornhill Surles Marcus (and possibly Hood). She disappeared in 1938 from Madison Parish Louisiana. Her children and grandchildren ARe trying to find out what happened to her. There was a thread years ago that said she had Tuberculosis and further, that she contracted it in the Women's Prison in Huntsville. They believed she was buried on the prison grounds. Can you assist me or perhaps tell me who could, in finding out if she was ever there and maybe buried there. Her remaining daughter is elderly and ill. She had a stroke recently and is about to give up on finding out what happened to her mother, even though she left her children. Thank you in advance. Brenda Reddick

I am searching for information on Joe Joskins, supposedly from Huntsville, Texas, born about 1844. He was in the 5th Texas Regiment, Company A, of Hood's Texas Brigade in the Civil War. In June 1865, he wrote "A Sketch of Hood's Texas Brigade," often cited as a resource in books on the Civil War. Unfortunately, his name is not on the unit roster, and does not come up anywhere else.
