Hood County is located in the north central plains of Texas just west of the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex. It was formed in November 1866 and named after Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood of the Confederate Army. The county seat was named in honor of Confederate general Hiram Bronson Granbury.
